Turn failure into motivation to move forward
Kien Minh's admission score was 29.2 points (IELTS 7.5; Math 9.2 points and Chemistry 10 points). With this result, Kien Minh was admitted to the International Economics major at the National Economics University and became one of the 5 top students of the school in 2024.
The male student is also the runner-up of block D07 in Thanh Hoa province with a total high school graduation exam score of 28.4 points (Chemistry 10 points; Math and English each 9.2 points).
"When I received the notice that I was the valedictorian of the National Economics University, I was overwhelmed and speechless" - the male student shared.
Despite achieving impressive results in the university entrance exam, few people know that he had a difficult time when he failed the entrance exam to a specialized school in the province.
"I failed the Chemistry exam at Lam Son High School for the Gifted. At that time, I was very sad and somewhat disappointed in myself. The school I attended for 3 years of high school was Dao Duy Tu High School" - Kien Minh recounted.
Not letting myself be immersed in negativity for too long, I quickly adapted to the learning environment, maintained my passion for Chemistry and set myself the goal of completing the IELTS certificate before the end of grade 11.
“I got 7.5 in IELTS in grade 11. After that, I focused on studying to get 9+ in Math and 10 in Chemistry” - Minh shared his university entrance exam preparation strategy.
At present, when recalling the past, Kien Minh feels a bit regretful for not being able to achieve his goal of passing the entrance exam to a specialized school. However, he considers this a lesson for himself to strive and make more efforts every day.
“Each person's journey has no stopping point, each of us needs to move forward” - Kien Minh added.
Self-study is the key
During the rush to prepare for the high school graduation exam, Kien Minh said that like many of his peers, he had a period of exhaustion due to stress. At times like that, he spent time playing games and considered this an effective way to entertain himself. However, the male student advised students to play in moderation and choose suitable games to avoid affecting their studies.
Despite his impressive academic achievements, when asked about his secret, the male student from Thanh Hoa smiled and said: “Self-study is the secret to doing everything. I do my homework by myself and often write down the general knowledge I have learned in a separate notebook.”
As for Chemistry - because of his special passion, Kien Minh always proactively looks for more difficult questions, some strange lessons, and explores other aspects of the subject in real life.
Entering the university gate as valedictorian, I always remind myself not to rest on my laurels, there are still many people around me who are better than me.
After more than 1 month of studying at university, the male student said he is gradually adapting to independent life and has no intention of working part-time to focus completely on studying.
However, I also spend time participating in clubs at school and learning Chinese to develop myself.
“I am learning how to manage my spending and time. I also have to remind myself to complete everything and improve my life skills,” Kien Minh shared.
