The first steps
The high school graduation exam is considered a very important exam, closing 12 years of studying, opening a new threshold in the lives of candidates. Realizing this, most candidates proactively study early. Pham Khanh Linh - a 12th grade student at Huynh Thuc Khang High School (Nghe An) - said that she felt quite worried because this was the first year of taking the exam according to the new program, the structure of the questions also had many changes. Therefore, the female student proactively arranged her study schedule to absorb the maximum knowledge.
“Currently, my study schedule is to study at school, then study three basic subjects: Math, Literature and English,” Khanh Linh confided. The female student believes that using a method of considering high school graduation exam scores is quite risky. Therefore, she proactively chooses more methods to reduce exam pressure.
“I am actively studying and reviewing English to take the IELTS exam after Tet. In addition, I am also considering using the method of reviewing transcripts and taking the competency assessment test of Hanoi National University,” Khanh Linh added.
Sharing about this year's innovative exam, Nhat Nguyen - a 12th grade student at Viet Duc High School (Hanoi) - said that he felt worried about the Literature subject, which is not his strength. "This year's exam follows a new structure, the Literature subject will not use materials in textbooks, so I think I need to thoroughly cultivate general knowledge to be able to apply it" - Nhat Nguyen shared.
Actively innovate in teaching and testing
The 2025 high school graduation exam is expected to take place at the end of June 2025. In order to create initiative and help students prepare for the exam with the best spirit, high schools have quickly developed study plans for students.
Ms. Nguyen Boi Quynh - Principal of Viet Duc High School (Hanoi) - said that the school has prepared teaching and learning plans for grade 12.
“The 2025 high school graduation exam has many new points, especially the exam structure. For multiple choice subjects, this year there are two more types: true or false and fill in the blanks. To be able to do these types of questions, students must have a solid grasp of the subject. Therefore, from the beginning of the school year, the school has developed an electronic lesson plan for all grade 12 teachers. The core plan is to review and consolidate knowledge as they teach, so that students can grasp the content of the knowledge and at the same time know how to do the test. Also through regular review and testing, teachers will know which areas of knowledge students are weak in, and from there, they can promptly supplement them,” said the Principal of Viet Duc High School.
Ms. Tran Quang Van - teacher at Ha Huy Tap High School (Nghe An) - said that the school has closely followed the knowledge from the 2018 General Education Program as well as updated new points of the exam to provide a suitable learning roadmap.
“Our teachers have been trained in how to create periodic test questions and review questions for the exam. All teachers have carefully researched and analyzed the sample exam structure of the Ministry of Education and Training and built a review question bank including basic knowledge questions, application questions and practical questions,” said Ms. Van.
