In recent years, the IELTS certificate has been considered a "golden ticket" to help candidates increase their chances of being admitted to universities.
Most universities in Vietnam require an IELTS score of 5.0 or 5.5 or higher, especially international training programs or top schools. Some schools directly admit or give priority to candidates with an IELTS certificate of 5.5 or higher. Meanwhile, the trend of top schools is to consider IELTS along with a number of other criteria such as high school transcripts, high school graduation exam scores, ability assessment test scores, thinking assessment...
This year, National Economics University does not consider admission based on independent IELTS certificates, nor does it consider IELTS combined with academic records.
Instead, the school considers admission based on IELTS certificates combined with the Hanoi National University's ability assessment test scores (HSA), Ho Chi Minh City National University's ability assessment (V-ACT), the University of Science and Technology's thinking assessment (TSA) and the 2025 high school graduation exam scores of math and 1 non-English subject in the school's admission combination.
With the admission method using high school graduation exam scores, National Economics University only has 4 admission combinations including: A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry), A01 (Math, Physics, English), D01 (Math, Literature, English) and D07 (Math, Chemistry, English).
Accordingly, candidates with IELTS 7.5-9.0 will be converted to 10 points.
Detailed IELTS conversion scores are as follows:
At Hanoi University of Science and Technology, candidates with talent-based admission who have VSTEP English certificates and other international English certificates such as IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, etc. will receive bonus points. In addition, candidates can use IELTS certificates for admission in combination with thinking assessment test scores.
The University also allows the conversion of English certificates into English subject scores when candidates are admitted based on high school graduation exam scores (combinations A01, D01, D04, D07).
The IELTS score conversion to English subject score is as follows: IELTS 5.0 is equivalent to 8.5 points; IELTS 5.5 is equivalent to 9 points; IELTS 6.0 is equivalent to 9.5 points; IELTS from 6.5 and above is equivalent to 10 points.
When converting IELTS to talent assessment and thinking assessment points, the score ranges from 1 to 7 corresponding to IELTS levels from 5.0 to 8.0. That is, IELTS 6.5 is added 4 points. Details are as follows:
