There have been opinions that if the graduation rate reaches nearly 100%, will there be a need for more exams? In fact, at present, it is not possible to study the cancellation of the graduation exam. Because the organization of the exam has been stipulated in the Education Law. Second, the purpose of the high school graduation exam is to check the output quality of the general education system.
This exam aims to assess the quality of training and compare localities, analyze collected data to learn from experience for the teaching process. From that result, we can visualize the picture of Vietnamese education to invest in or strive for education.
The problem is how to make the graduation exam no longer a burden for students, families and society?
Every exam season comes, especially the high school graduation exam - an important door to determine the future path of millions of students - and brings with it so much pressure. But that pressure is not only on the shoulders of students, but also spreads to the whole family, especially parents - those who accompany, take care of every meal, sleep, every line of book, every page for their children throughout the long journey.
For many students, the high school graduation exam is not only a "graduation exam" but also a "life choice exam". Not passing it means the door to university is closed; not achieving high scores, meaning the dream of a top school will explode. That mentality makes them have to study day and night, race with plans, assignments, and even expectations from their families and society.
Many students are in a mental crisis due to exam pressure: Insomnia, anxiety, low self-esteem, and even depression.
Recently, the Ministry of Education and Training has made positive adjustments in the work of preparing questions, organizing exams, and tightening discipline to ensure fairness. However, more humane solutions are needed to help students have more options suitable for their abilities, avoiding the thinking of "one exam decides the whole future".
Exams are an inevitable part of education, but should not be a burden that exhaces both students and parents. Society, schools and educational policies need to work together to create a healthy learning environment, where success is not only measured by scores, but by the maturity of each individual.
Only then will the high school graduation exam truly be an important milestone - not an invisible barrier that oppresses dreams.
