Many students have made some adjustments to their review plans after the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) announced the sample test for the 2025 high school graduation exam, nearly 5 months earlier than previous years.

Prepare carefully

The Ministry of Education and Training has announced the sample test for the 2025 high school graduation exam, including 10 cultural subjects and 7 foreign languages. The content of the test is assessed to closely follow the teaching program content, in accordance with the criteria for testing and assessing students' abilities. Compared to previous years, this year's sample test was announced nearly 5 months earlier. This has helped students be proactive in their learning process and prepare for the upcoming exam.

Nguyen Thi Quyen - a student at Hau Loc 1 High School (Thanh Hoa) quickly tried the test. Quyen said that this time the illustration test was good but was also worried because the test was quite long.

“This is the first year that the exam format according to the 2018 General Education Program has been applied, so after the Ministry announced the sample exam, the teachers gave us the exam questions to solve and mark. The new question formats are applied, requiring students to clearly understand the nature and grasp the way to do the exam to avoid losing points unfairly. However, I personally feel that the exam format is still long, I am afraid that when entering the exam room, it will be difficult to meet the time limit,” said Quyen.

Sharing with Lao Dong Newspaper, Pham Ngoc Dung - a student at Giao Thuy High School (Nam Dinh) also made some adjustments in his review plan to prepare for the upcoming exam.

“After receiving the sample exam questions, I was most impressed with the Literature subject. With this exam, memorizing works like in previous years is no longer the case. Instead, we students will have to clearly understand the nature of the genres, in order to apply and analyze. This requires a great deal of thinking ability from students. I will have to read and learn more about works outside of the textbooks,” Dung shared. At the same time, the male student also seemed quite worried, because in this school year, not only has the way of making questions been renewed, but the way of calculating scores has also changed.

Avoid the beaten path

As one of the two compulsory subjects, the Literature sample test has received much attention. This is also the only subject in the 2025 high school graduation exam that is tested in essay format with an open-ended orientation and different materials compared to previous years' exams.

Commenting on the sample test in general, Ms. Nguyen Thanh Binh - Literature teacher, Nghe An Province Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, said that the test has innovations in content and questions to test students' knowledge, skills, and abilities, closely following the orientations of the 2018 General Education Program.

Regarding the material, although it is not included in the textbook program, the questions asked and the content of the text are not too challenging, but it limits the chance when doing the test. This is a stepping stone for students to gradually get used to the new assessment and testing, reorient their review methods and best prepare for the 2025 high school graduation exam.

“The Ministry of Education and Training’s announcement of the sample test 5 months in advance helps teachers and students to be proactive in the process of teaching, learning and reviewing to prepare for the exam to achieve many of the goals set out in the plan announced by the Ministry. We will closely follow the sample test as well as the Ministry’s instructions to refine the knowledge to teach students. At the same time, we will analyze and evaluate the types of test questions, determine the main content needed in teaching, guide students and then adjust the appropriate teaching plan to review for each group of students,” Ms. Binh shared.

During the final exam review period, Ms. Binh believes that schools, teachers and parents need to guide students to have a suitable review schedule, stay calm and confident. In particular, do not put too much pressure on yourself to affect your psychology, health and study and exam results.
