The 2025 high school graduation exam takes place in the context of the new general education program being comprehensively implemented in grade 12. The exam structure of many subjects has been adjusted to increase competency assessment, require the application of interdisciplinary knowledge and gradually reduce the situation of rote learning and learning.
The exam questions for some subjects are considered to have higher difficulty than last year, especially in Math and English - two subjects that often appear in many university admission combinations.
In this reality, many admission experts predict that this year's university admission scores will tend to decrease slightly, especially in groups with English and Math subjects.
Mr. Pham Thai Son - Admissions Director of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade - said that the benchmark scores of some groups in 2025 may decrease by 0.5 to 1.5 points compared to the previous year.
In particular, blocks A01 (Math, Physics, English) and D01 (Math, Literature, English) are likely to decrease because this year's Math and English exam is considered more difficult.
"In general, the English exam is unlikely to have a high score. The average score of this subject will decrease compared to last year by about 1-2 points. The common Math score will also be 6-7 points, Mr. Son analyzed.
However, in the groups A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry), B00 (Math, Chemistry, Biology), Mr. Son predicts that the benchmark score is likely to remain the same or only decrease slightly due to the high competition trend in the engineering and pharmaceutical industries.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan Dung - Director of Information and Communications, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - said that the 2025 high school graduation exam has a clear differentiation in some subjects, especially Math and English, and it is forecasted that this year's general score in admission combinations may be slightly adjusted compared to last year.
"The higher difficulty of the English and Math exam will certainly affect the scoring level of combinations with these two subjects, leading to corresponding adjustments in the standard scores, especially the combinations chosen by many candidates for admission such as A00, A01, D01. However, the level of impact also depends on the enrollment quota and the number of students interested in registering for each major and school. For hot industries that attract many candidates, the benchmark score may remain high due to high competition," Ms. Dung commented.
