In 2025, Ho Chi Minh City National University (HCMNNU) plans to organize two rounds of capacity assessment (CAP) exams, round 1 scheduled for March 30 and round 2 on May 1.
According to VNU-HCM, the exam still consists of 120 multiple-choice questions, but has been adjusted to suit the new curriculum. In particular, the Logic - Data Analysis and Problem Solving section has been restructured into the Scientific Thinking section, with 30 multiple-choice questions. The questions are structured in the direction of providing information, data, facts, experimental planning, and experimental results, thereby requiring candidates to demonstrate their ability to understand and apply information, determine experimental results, and predict laws.
The Language Use (Vietnamese and English) and Mathematics sections have increased the number of questions to 60 and 30 questions, respectively.
Candidates have a total time of 150 minutes to complete the test. The maximum score of the test is 1,200 points, each question has a different weighting depending on the difficulty, in which the Language Use section is 600 points; Mathematics is 300 points and Scientific Thinking is 300 points.
In 2024, the results of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam will be used by more than 100 universities and colleges to partially recruit students.
In 2025, the specialized competency assessment exam of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education will also be adjusted, in which the structure of 5/6 subjects will be changed. The exam for Math, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology consists of 40 questions, divided into three parts, instead of 50 questions with two parts as before.
For Literature, the test consists of 22 questions in three parts: Reading comprehension (multiple choice); writing a short paragraph; essay. Of which, the writing a short paragraph is a new point compared to previous years. The structure of the English test remains the same.
In 2025, it is expected that 8 other schools will use this exam score for admission, including: Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, Hanoi University of Education, Hanoi University of Education 2, pedagogical schools under Thai Nguyen University, Hue University, Da Nang University, Vinh University and Nguyen Tat Thanh University.
