Accordingly, from 2025, the structure of the National High School Exam will be adjusted to match the 2018 general education program. Ho Chi Minh City National University will maintain the structure of the language and mathematics sections, while increasing the number of questions in these two sections to increase the reliability and discrimination of the exam.
The Logic - Data Analysis and Problem Solving section is restructured into the Scientific Thinking section to assess candidates' ability in logic and scientific reasoning when solving real-life situations in the fields of science, technology, economics and society.
The questions in the Scientific Thinking section are designed to provide information, data, facts, experimental planning, and experimental results, thereby requiring candidates to demonstrate their ability to understand and apply information, determine experimental results, and predict laws.
The 2025 National High School Exam will still consist of 120 multiple-choice objective questions with 150 minutes to complete and will be conducted on paper. The exam results will be determined using a modern multiple-choice method based on the question response theory. The score of each question will be weighted differently depending on the difficulty of the question.
The test score is converted by section. The maximum score of the test is 1,200 points, in which the maximum score for each component of the test is shown on the score sheet including: Vietnamese is 300 points, English is 300 points; Mathematics is 300 points and Scientific Thinking is 300 points.
According to VNU-HCM, the exam from 2025 aims to accurately assess students' overall abilities, helping universities and colleges recruit suitable candidates; at the same time, ensuring fairness, creating equal opportunities in accessing higher education for all candidates, even when they choose different subjects in high school. This approach to the exam is also consistent with the combined admission orientation of VNU-HCM member units.
In 2025, VNU-HCM will continue to organize the National High School Graduation Exam with two scheduled exams on March 30 and June 1 in 25 provinces/cities, similar to 2024.
In 2024, the National High School Graduation Exam expanded to 26 provinces/cities, attracting nearly 107,000 candidates (an increase of more than 21 times compared to 2018) and more than 100 universities and colleges used the exam results for admission. The National High School Graduation Exam helped VNU-HCM enroll more than 9,200 students, accounting for more than 38% of the enrollment target for 2024.
