In the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will have about 90,000 secondary school graduates, a decrease of about 26,000 compared to the previous year.
Candidates will take 3 exams: Math, Literature (120 minutes/subject), Foreign Language (foreign language 1 being studied at school, 90 minutes of study) and specialized, integrated subjects (150 minutes) with candidates registering for admission to specialized, integrated classes.
This year, Ho Chi Minh City will stop enrolling specialized classes at 4 high schools: Nguyen Thuong Hien, Gia Dinh, Mac Dinh Chi and Nguyen Huu Huan.
Candidates who wish to take the 10th grade entrance exam will register their wish to enter Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted or the School for the Gifted (under Ho Chi Minh City National University, this school enrolls students according to its own exam).
In addition, this year, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted will recruit candidates nationwide instead of only Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted and Nguyen Hoc School for the Gifted.
Candidates taking this year's specialized exam can register a maximum of 2 wishes to enter a specialized school, last year they were registered with 3 wishes to enter schools, specialized classes or schools with integrated classes.
To ensure enough students are admitted to specialized classes, classes under Project 5695 and schools that regularly have a high rate of successful candidates but are not admitted due to the characteristics of the area, the Department of Education and Training creates a balance, adjusts enrollment higher than the original target but not exceeding 20%, aiming to maintain enough students according to the school's education plan.
For the 10th grade enrollment under the 5695 project, the City People's Committee allows the number of students/class from 25 to 35. If the number of admitted students and the English program application according to the 5695 project are not enough, there will be no classes opened at that school.
Students who have submitted their applications will still be considered for transfer to study at a school that opens English classes according to Project 5695, with a quota or is still considered for 10th grade admission according to 3 wishes or can change the appropriate learning type.
