Expected not to multiply the coefficient by 2 for Math and Literature
At the admission consulting event on the morning of February 23, Mr. Nghiem Van Binh - Deputy Head of the Department of Education Quality Management and Assessment, Hanoi Department of Education and Training (DET), said that the way to calculate public grade 10 grades this year has changed.
Accordingly, Hanoi is expected to not multiply the coefficient by 2 for math and literature subjects. With equal scoring for all subjects, candidates are weaker in Math and Literature compared to the third subject, which will not be as disadvantaged as the old scoring method.
Exam scores and benchmarks announced at the same time
Circular 30/2024/TT-BGDDT (Circular 30.) on the regulations for junior high school and high school admissions issued by the Ministry of Education and Training stipulates: The announcement of standard scores is carried out at the same time as the announcement of exam scores.
Thus, starting from this year, students will know the exam scores and admission results for grade 10 on the same day.
In previous years, Hanoi announced the standard scores 1 to 7 days after the exam score announcement date.
Excellent provincial students receive additional points of encouragement
Circular 30 also stipulates that secondary school students who win provincial prizes for national competitions on culture, arts, sports, scientific and technical research will be awarded additional encouragement points.
Encouragement points are added to the total admission scores calculated on a scale of 10 (ten) for each subject and exam. In which the first prize is awarded 1.5 points; the second prize is awarded 1 point; the third prize is awarded 0.5 points.
In previous years, the Ministry did not allow the addition of incentive points for students who won provincial and municipal awards, but only directly recruited students who won national awards.
Students must write papers, do not use textbook materials
From 2025, for Literature, teachers will avoid using language materials in textbooks when checking, in order to overcome the situation of inner-city learning. Thus, students no longer have a " closet" to review for the Literature exam.
The illustrative exam for grade 10 language and literature of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training also clearly shows this.
To be able to do the test with completely new language materials, candidates must have a firm grasp of the characteristics of the genres, remember and master knowledge of Vietnamese, and have good reading comprehension skills.
In addition, from the upcoming 10th grade exam, Hanoi students will have to learn the skills of writing prose, not just writing paragraphs. The social argumentation question accounts for 40% of the total score, which is an essay with a length of about 400 words.
The exam and the exam section have a clear difference in requirements, structure, and characteristics of the exam format. Candidates who do not practice their craft of writing entries will encounter confusion and not fully handle the requirements for the exam.
Test subjects change, new testing format added
According to the format of the 10th grade entrance exam announced by the Department of Education and Training, the multiple-choice test subjects are changed according to the format of the high school graduation exam.
According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, questions at the recognition level will account for 20%, the understanding and application level will be 40%. For integrated subjects and IT, this ratio is divided into types of questions. Schools need to research and apply this test structure in teaching and reviewing so that students can get used to new types of multiple-choice questions such as correct/false selection and short answer choices.
Candidates must be truly capable of reasoning, analyzing and grasping basic knowledge to answer new multiple-choice questions, and cannot just get points like before.
