Good differentiation test, universities trust and use results
On the afternoon of July 15, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) announced the scores for the 2025 high school graduation exam.
In all subjects, the whole country has more than 15,300 exams with a score of 10. This figure is about 4,400 more than last year.
Geography has the highest number of candidates with absolute scores with about 6,900 papers. Followed by Physics 3,929 papers, History 1,518 papers and Economic and Legal Education 1,451 papers.
Surprisingly, Math - 1 of the 2 compulsory subjects, with 513 students achieving 10 points and English, the number of candidates achieving absolute scores is more than 100. Previously, when the exam had just ended, many candidates commented that these two subjects were relatively difficult compared to the published sample exam.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Duc Son - Principal of Hanoi National University of Education said that this is an interesting point, showing a positive signal of teaching, testing, and evaluation according to the 2018 General Education Program.
"When there are no results, we just think that students cannot do it, the results will be very shocking. But the results showed that the contestants could do it. This proves that students have gone ahead. They have adapted, although strange and confused, because they have not become much familiar with the new exam questions. This is a surprise and optimism in that students seem to be starting to adapt quickly" - Mr. Son further analyzed.

The President of the University of Education acknowledged that with the common scores for high school graduation exams this year, universities can confidently use them as a basis for admission.
Sharing the same view, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc - Chairman of the Council of the University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi - assessed that the results of this year's graduation exam have a good differentiation, helping schools to confidently use this exam score for university admission.
University admission scores expected to decrease in subjects with Math and English

For English, Mr. Duc compared that last year there were more than 1 million candidates taking the exam, with two peaks in their high school - clearly demonstrating the layering between the group of good students and the group of weak students. Meanwhile, this year, English is the optional subject, with only about 300,000 candidates registered - mainly those who are well-oriented and confident in their foreign language skills.
"The exam is also considered more difficult than last year, when the output standard from A2 (in 2024) has been increased to B1 (in 2025).
Although the rate of candidates below average is still about 38%, it is clear that the English proficiency of the candidates is much better than before" - Mr. Duc said.
Mr. Duc predicted that this year's university admission benchmark will be lower than last year for many reasons, including the better differentiation of the exam and a decrease in the average score. The excellent score score is lower than in previous years. Therefore, the admission standard score is lower than last year.
At first, we thought it should be 2-6 points lower because candidates and teachers all considered the Math and English exam difficult. But when the Ministry announced the scores, we were surprised because the scores did not have too much discrimination. The benchmark score will be about 2-3 points lower depending on the field" - Mr. Duc said.
The average score for Literature and Geography is still relatively high, so the difference in standard scores is not too much compared to last year like the C00 combination. As for the combination of Math and English, Mr. Duc predicted that the benchmark score would decrease significantly.
At 8:00 a.m. tomorrow, July 16, more than 1 million students nationwide will look up their high school graduation exam scores; at the same time, officially register and adjust their university admission wishes until July 28. On August 20, it is expected that universities will simultaneously announce the benchmark scores for 2025.
This year, universities must convert the benchmark scores and admission scores of admission methods to the same general scale according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
