Parents are concerned
On July 1st, the Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province announced the benchmark scores for admission to 10th grade public high schools for the 2026-2027 school year for schools applying for admission.
After having the results, many parents and students expressed concern about the selection between nguyện vọng. Many students failed nguyện vọng 1 but had enough points to enter the school registering for nguyện vọng 2 but were still not accepted because the school had recruited enough quotas in nguyện vọng 1.
Ms. N.T. N (resident of Tan Lap ward) said that her child achieved 46 points (of which grade 6 achieved 10 points + grade 7 achieved 9 points + grade 8 achieved 9 points + grade 9 (x2) achieved 18 points). She registered aspiration 1 for Buon Ma Thuot High School and aspiration 2 for Hong Duc High School.
Although they did not pass nguyện vọng 1 but had enough points to enter nguyện vọng 2, when they came to complete admission procedures, the school still refused to accept them because there were no more quotas.
Before my child took the exam, I considered the risk, so I registered a second wish. However, my child still does not have the opportunity to study at a public school even if he has enough points. If according to current regulations, my child only has the choice of vocational training or studying at a continuing education center, while my family does not have the conditions to send my child to a private school," Ms. N shared.
According to research, many parents and other students are also in a similar situation. Therefore, they propose that the education sector study opening a supplementary admission round (aspiration 3) after schools complete enrollment, based on reviewing the remaining short quotas or regulating quotas between schools.
At the same time, consider a controlled over-enrollment mechanism for some qualified schools to create more opportunities for students with high scores but failing nguyện vọng 1.
Department of Education and Training intervenes to handle
Ms. Le Thi Thanh Xuan, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province, said that the unit has grasped the feedback from parents and students.
According to this year's enrollment regulations, students can register for two aspirations. In case they are not admitted to aspiration 1, they are still considered for admission in aspiration 2. However, in reality, many schools have recruited enough quotas right from aspiration 1.
Currently, the Department of Education and Training is reviewing the enrollment quotas of private schools and continuing education centers to have support plans and create conditions for students to continue studying.
At the same time, the Department of Education and Training continues to assess the ability to meet the conditions on facilities, teaching staff and current regulations to consider increasing enrollment quotas for some public high schools.
