Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine said that the cooperation program for training Medical Doctors between Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine (PNTU) and Johannes Gutenberg Mainz University (JGU, CHLB Germany) has been implemented since 2013, with the goal of giving Vietnamese students the opportunity to study under the German standard medicine program.
During the implementation process, the program has achieved many positive results, contributing to training a team of young doctors with professional capacity and international integration thinking.
However, after the official review and exchange process between the two schools, the German partner announced the termination of cooperation in training the Vietnam - Germany medical program from the 2024 school year, due to changes in the policy of providing exam questions and recognizing the international medical program of the German National Institute for Medical Processors (IMPP).
This is a systematic change from Germany, not stemming from any violations or disagreements between the two training institutions.
The decision to terminate cooperation was issued by Johannes Gutenberg Mainz University (JGU) and Universitätsmedizin Mainz in June 2024, following an internal request from the German side, stemming from the factors that the IMPP Institute (Germany's Institute for Medical - Pharmaceutical Testing) stops providing national M2 test after 2027.
"Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine has made many efforts to discuss, propose solutions and expressed its desire to maintain the program in the past time. But at the present time, policy changes from Germany are a factor beyond the school's ability to regulate," the school informed.
According to the school, to ensure the learning rights and stability of students, the 2025 enrollment course of the Vietnam - Germany Faculty of Medicine will be transferred to the regular Medical Doctor training program, starting from October 20, 2025.
Ensure a 6-year continuous study schedule, according to the Medical Doctor training program approved by the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of Health.
For the 2023 and 2024 courses, based on the roadmap to end cooperation between the two sides from July 2024, the school will actively discuss with partners so that the 2023 and 2024 courses can be conducted as before to ensure the rights of students and their families.
In addition, this afternoon (October 22), Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine will organize a dialogue and meet with parents and students studying the Vietnam - Germany medical training program for the 2023 and 2024 to provide information on the situation and reasons for terminating training cooperation; study plans for students of the courses they are studying; financial plans and handling of tuition fees paid as well as training plans, recognition of learning outcomes and support for students in the transition period.
