Early on November 5, typhoon Kalmaegi entered the eastern sea area of the central East Sea, becoming the 13th typhoon in the East Sea in 2025.
Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan emphasized that storm No. 13 is a very strong storm, capable of causing heavy rain and floods, with the flood peak predicted to exceed all levels that have occurred in the old Binh Dinh (now east of Gia Lai) if the storm intensity does not change.

Currently, the center of the storm is expected to still be directed towards the province. Gia Lai officially activated the level 5 storm response scenario, corresponding to a wind level of 14 or higher, which is a super typhoon.
On the same morning, the Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee directed the Department of Education and Training to notify all students in the eastern part of the province to be off school from the afternoon of November 5 to ensure safety. In the western part of the province, the Department of Education and Training and localities closely monitor storm forecasts, proactively let students stay home from school when the storm is complicated.
According to the direction of the Department of Education and Training, all educational institutions in 58 communes and wards in the eastern part of the province will let students take a day off from school from the afternoon of November 5 to the end of November 7 to proactively prevent and avoid storms. In 77 communes and wards in the west, educational institutions proactively let students stay home from school depending on actual developments.
During the school break, principals of educational institutions must closely monitor weather information; require teachers, students, and parents not to move to dangerous areas; proactively deploy measures to ensure safety.
Schools in areas affected by storms must urgently take measures to prevent and avoid storms; report the number of students who are off school to the Department of Education and Training before 5:00 p.m. every day; coordinate with local authorities to be ready to use schools as evacuation sites when necessary.
After the storm, educational institutions quickly overcame the damage, cleaned schools, ensured safety, prevented epidemics and soon stabilized teaching and learning routines, not to affect the 2025-2026 school year plan.
