A locality plans to reduce 465 commune-level public school headquarters
On August 2, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of the leaders of the Department of Home Affairs of Quang Tri province said that a report had been sent to the Provincial People's Committee on the situation of reviewing and developing a project to arrange public educational institutions under the commune-level People's Committee in the area.
The arrangement is carried out based on the assessment of school scale, traffic conditions, terrain, population distribution, socio-economics, facilities, staff and learning needs of students in each locality.
After arrangement, each commune and ward must ensure that there is at least 1 kindergarten, 1 primary school and 1 secondary school or 1 multi-level general education school including primary and secondary school.
According to the overall plan, the whole province is expected to streamline from 831 public educational institutions under the commune-level People's Committee to 366 institutions, a reduction of 465 schools, equivalent to 55.96%. The Department of Education and Training (GDĐT) of Can Tho City has sent a report to the leaders of the City Party Committee and the People's Committee of Can Tho City on the preparation situation for the 2026 - 2027 school year.
Accordingly, based on reports and summaries of needs and expectations of units and localities, the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho City said that in the 2026 - 2027 school year, the whole city is expected to have 20,365 classes/class groups.
