Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Huu Ha - Deputy Head of Tram Tau Commune Police, Lao Cai province said that the unit is completing the dossier to issue a conclusion on the case of the principal fighting with a teacher in a restaurant.
The initial cause was determined to be that Mr. Ngo Ngoc Nam - a teacher at Tram Tau Ethnic Minority Boarding Primary and Secondary School had an act of inciting and causing conflict first. In a moment of anger, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh - the Principal, beat Mr. Nam, leading to a scuffle.
Another reason is alcohol. The brawl occurred after the party, when both of them had been drinking beer and alcohol.
Very painful, it was a party celebrating Vietnamese Teachers' Day November 20th.
Beating people is a wrong act, whether the person being beaten has provocative words or not. The proposal for administrative sanctions from the police agency is necessary, showing strictness in handling violations.
But if it only stops at determining who beats whom, how much money is fined, it does not fully reflect the nature of this case.
If the teacher fights with the teacher, what's left of pedagogy and education?
While school violence is a disaster for the educational environment, violence caused by teachers is like "pouring oil into the fire".
Parents entrust their children to the school with the belief that it is a safe and civilized environment, but images and information about the teacher fighting spreading on social networks are inevitable, shaking that belief.
For students, the image of a teacher in their eyes is not only a person who imparts knowledge, but also a role model on how to live and behave. When that role model is broken, is a bad role model, then hurt is inevitable.
In the end, principal Nguyen Van Thanh and teacher Ngo Ngoc Nam are both reprehensible, because they have disappointed parents and students, caused bad public opinion about the school and affected the education sector.
Tram Tau Commune Police proposed to administratively fine Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh - Principal from 5-8 million VND for the act of "intentionally causing injury" or causing harm to other people's health.
However, for this case, the amount of administrative fines is not important, because this is not a normal scuffle or fight, but two teachers.
Administrative sanctions are just procedures, no matter how much money the violator pays, they cannot get back the lost values.
When teachers do not maintain standards and set an example, lessons on ethics and civic education in schools become meaningless.
