The Department of Education and Training (DET) of Hung Yen has just issued a document requesting educational institutions in the area to deploy a movement to overcome the problem of confusing the two prefixes L and N. The movement is not only for students but also for staff and teachers, considering this a key task for the 2025-2026 school year and the following years.
At the same time, units need to strengthen propaganda work, encourage staff, teachers and students to self-train, contributing to building a standard communication environment in Vietnamese in school and in society.
The launch of the movement should be organized through collective activities, flag-raising at the beginning of the week, deployed from September and completed before October 15. After launching, the school proactively organizes appropriate training activities, without affecting the regular school hours.
Sharing with Lao Dong reporter, teacher Pham Thi Linh - a primary school teacher in Dong Anh commune (Hanoi) - said that Hung Yen's initiation of this movement brings a sense of closeness, and is also a practical suggestion for other localities to refer to and apply. According to Ms. Linh, in reality, many students can be pronounced incorrectly for many reasons such as regional characteristics, local languages, communication habits in the family or not being able to correct their pronunciation in time.
Locating the movement will help children to be discovered, guided and practiced early, thereby forming a standard pronunciation habit right from the first stage of life - Ms. Linh shared.
Ms. Linh also emphasized that close coordination between schools and parents plays an important role in correcting pronunciation errors for children. If teachers and parents are patient and methodical, children will gradually become more confident in communication, developing both language and social skills well.
Sharing the same view, teacher Dao Minh Tam - Vu Cong Te Primary School (Vinh Thanh Commune, Hanoi) - commented: "This is a correct and humane policy, demonstrating the concern for the comprehensive development of students, especially in language and communication skills. Spelling training helps children speak standardly, use accurate language, while fostering confidence, courage and ability to present problems - important skills in modern life".
Ms. Tam emphasized that clear and accurate speaking also opens up future opportunities for students. When they speak well and communicate effectively, they will easily access learning and career opportunities, while developing knowledge, skills and personality. "Therefore, overcoming pronunciation errors not only has immediate significance but also has long-term value, supporting the younger generation to develop comprehensively" - Ms. Tam said.
