Ho Chi Minh City - The former District 12 People's Committee headquarters is being urgently renovated into Le Thi Rieng Primary - Secondary - High School to welcome students.

Just a few weeks before the opening ceremony of the 2026-2027 school year, the construction site to renovate the old District 12 People's Committee headquarters into Le Thi Rieng Primary - Secondary - High School is busy with construction. From an administrative headquarters, this place is about to become the first multi-level school in Thoi An ward, meeting the learning needs of hundreds of students.

According to Lao Dong's records, in the first days of August, many workers are focusing on painting and repairing classrooms, installing electricity and water systems, treating ceilings and walls, and completing basic items.

Outside, construction materials are still being gathered at many locations, and schoolyard areas are also being renovated, racing against time to be completed before the new school year.

Mr. Luong Van Minh - Principal of Le Thi Rieng Primary - Secondary - High School - said that the conversion of function from the old District 12 People's Committee headquarters to a school is a policy that has received the consensus of the people.

The operation of Le Thi Rieng Primary - Secondary - High School is expected to contribute to reducing the pressure of first-grade enrollment in Thoi An ward and surrounding areas. Now that there is an additional inter-level school from grades 1 to 12, it will create conditions for students to study near home, and parents will also feel more secure. People in the area are very excited when the school is established," Mr. Minh said.

According to Mr. Minh, the school was established on May 20. Immediately after that, the unit urgently completed procedures to renovate facilities. Currently, the contractor is increasing personnel and speeding up progress to complete the items before the new school year begins.

With an area of more than 32,000m2, the school grounds have many green trees and a large yard. In addition to the classroom system, the school plans to arrange football, volleyball, badminton courts and outdoor activity areas to create learning and playing space for students.

In the 2026-2027 school year, Le Thi Rieng Primary - Secondary - High School enrolls 10 grades with 450 students, 4 grades 1 with 140 students and 4 grades 6 with 180 students.

As a parent whose child was admitted to class 10A8 of the school, Mr. Tran Viet Hung said that his family is especially happy because from now on his child no longer has to study far away.

Previously, if this area did not have a high school, my child had to study in other areas such as Go Vap or neighboring areas. Picking up and dropping off was very difficult, many families even had to hire cars to pick up and drop off. Now the school is only about 100m from my house, so my child can go to school by himself, which is convenient and saves time and costs," Mr. Hung shared.

Not only parents, many students are also excited when entering the new school for the first time. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tuyen, a 10A2 student, said that she was selected by the school to participate in the art troupe preparing for the opening ceremony, so she had the opportunity to come to school early.

This is the first time I have been to a new school. I find the school very spacious, with many green trees and a very beautiful space. I hope the school will soon complete the repairs so that we have a really good learning environment. I also hope to have three years of high school with many beautiful memories and achieve many achievements," Thanh Tuyen expressed.

The conversion of administrative headquarters into schools not only helps to effectively exploit public assets after the arrangement of administrative units but also opens up more learning opportunities for students in one of the rapidly urbanizing areas of Ho Chi Minh City.
