In addition to the 2027 Lunar New Year holiday option, the Ministry of Home Affairs has just sent opinions to 13 ministries and sectors on the proposal to have Vietnam Culture Day holiday in 2026.
For civil servants and public employees, the Ministry of Home Affairs proposes 2 options:
Option 1: Vietnam Culture Day holiday on Tuesday, November 24, 2026 Gregorian calendar.
Exchange the working day of Monday, November 23, 2026 to the weekly holiday of Saturday, November 28, 2026.
Thus, during the 2026 Vietnam Culture Day holiday, civil servants and public employees will have 4 consecutive days off, from Saturday, November 21, 2026 to the end of Tuesday, November 24, 2026 and make up for work on Saturday, November 28, 2026.
Option 2: Vietnam Culture Day holiday on Tuesday, November 24, 2026, without changing working days.
The Ministry of Home Affairs proposes to choose option 1. The Ministry explains that arranging 4-day consecutive holidays creates conditions for officials, civil servants, and public employees to participate in cultural activities, contributing to promoting the meaning of Vietnam Culture Day; and at the same time facilitating the organization of cultural, tourism, service activities and promoting consumer demand. The option only implements 1 working day of exchange and still ensures full working time according to regulations.
For employees, the Ministry proposes that employees be allowed to take leave from work and receive full salary on Tuesday, November 24, 2026 Gregorian calendar according to regulations.
For Vietnam Culture Day, Resolution No. 28/2026/QH16 takes effect from July 1, 2026, so it is necessary to promptly develop a plan to organize the implementation of the first day off on November 24, 2026. Because November 24, 2026 falls on Tuesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs is developing the above 2 plans.
For 2027, November 24 falls on Wednesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs proposes to implement a holiday on the right day according to Resolution No. 28/2026/QH16, not implementing swaps.
