Always in the mood to review
Planning to take the Hanoi National University's competency assessment exam, Phan Nhat Tan - a 12th grade student at Vo Nguyen Giap High School for the Gifted (Quang Binh) has been urgently reviewing since the end of the first semester. Currently, the male student is in the process of getting familiar with the structure and practicing the questions.
“I will register for the first round of exams in mid-March to be proactive in the next phase if the results are not as expected. Because there is not much time left, I am planning to study during Tet instead of taking a break. Taking the time to review for the exam will help me reduce the pressure of racing after Tet,” Nhat Tan shared.
Sharing the same thought with Nhat Tan, Nguyen Thanh Tra - a 12th grade student at Hong Thai High School (Hanoi) decided not to return home with her parents to stay and study. The female student is regaining knowledge of the subjects after focusing on studying for the city-wide excellent student team in early January.
Thanh Tra confided: “Everyone in my family understands and supports my studies. During this Tet holiday, I don’t have to clean the house so I have maximum time to study.”
The female student plans to take a crash course in the Hanoi National University's competency assessment exam. Because she started later than many others, Thanh Tra spent her entire Tet holiday quickly reviewing the types of questions on the exam.
“I am aiming to complete at least one competency assessment test every day. In addition, I also have to spend 2-3 hours every day to make up for the missing knowledge in History and Geography. With many concepts and time milestones, I plan to study using mind maps,” Thanh Tra added.
Nguyen Bao Anh Quan - a 9th grade student at Hong Ha Secondary School (Dan Phuong District, Hanoi) has made a detailed plan for Math and Literature during the Lunar New Year.
While waiting for the announcement of the third exam subject, I plan to rest only on the first day of Tet. During the remaining days, I will review the worksheets given by the teachers and find more questions online to get familiar with the types of questions.
"I'm making a schedule for each subject to be 3 hours and still leaving some space for entertainment," Quan said.
The male student believes that reviewing during Tet will help him gain an advantage over his friends. Mastering Math and Literature early will help him focus on the third exam when it is announced.
Balance between study and rest
Ms. Phan Minh Nguyet - homeroom teacher of grade 12, Hong Thai High School - shared: "Students' concern is that it is difficult to balance the time to review for the competency assessment exams, IELTS and high school graduation exams. That is why many students have consciously made a study plan to make the most of their time, avoiding the pressure that accumulates after Tet."
However, Ms. Nguyet does not encourage students to focus too much on studying and forget to rest. According to her, Tet is also an opportunity for students to be close to their families, relax and prepare mentally for the upcoming important exams.
Directly teaching Literature, Ms. Minh Nguyet shared some review tips during Tet: “With a large amount of theory, students should summarize it in a concise and easy-to-understand way. Choosing some reading comprehension questions related to spring and Tet also helps students feel more inspired to study. In addition, students can join Literature study groups to exchange and further their love for this subject.”
