HUE - Students in Hue stay home from school on November 3 due to floods; rising river water levels, increasing risk of flooding and landslides.

In the face of complicated floods and rising water levels in rivers, in order to ensure the safety of teachers and students, the Department of Education and Training of Hue City has announced that students in the whole city will be off school on November 3.

For schools in mountainous and highland areas that are not flooded, principals and leaders of the center are proactive in deciding on organizing teaching according to the program, and at the same time report to the competent authority according to regulations.

The Department of Education and Training recommends that units seriously implement it, ensuring absolute safety for students and teachers during floods.

On the afternoon of November 2, the Hue City Civil Defense Command said that in the past 6 hours, many upstream areas such as Long Quang, Nam Dong, Khe Tre, Loc An, Phu Loc and Thuong Nhat (in the Ta Trach Lake basin) have had very heavy to extremely heavy rain, with total rainfall from 200 - 300mm.

It is forecasted that in the next 3 - 6 hours, heavy rain will spread to the entire city of Hue, especially the above areas will continue to have especially heavy rain, causing the water level of the rivers to rise rapidly.

At 1:00 p.m. the same day, the water level of the Huong River at Kim Long station reached 2.26m, 0.26m higher than alert level 2; the Bo River at Phuoc station reached 3.86m, about 0.64m below alert level 3.

The Hydrometeorological Agency forecasts that in the afternoon and night of November 2, the water level of the Huong and Bo rivers will continue to increase, possibly approximately or exceeding alert level 3. The Truoi, O Lau rivers and other dependencies are also at high levels, posing a potential risk of widespread flooding, flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas.
