Recently, a short clip was circulated on Facebook showing a male student being beaten with a plastic chair by his classmates in the restroom. The incident is said to have occurred at Long Hoa Secondary School, Binh Thuy District, Can Tho City.
According to the video clip, there was a group of male students standing in the restroom area, wearing the uniform of Long Hoa Secondary School. While a male student was talking, another student was hit on the head with a plastic chair and forced into the restroom. The male student who was hit only put his hands on his head and endured the beating, instead of hitting his friend.
At this time, the surrounding students just stood there watching, no one intervened. Notably, in the group of students standing here, there were two students holding cigarettes in their hands and smoking.
Speaking to Lao Dong at noon on October 28, Ms. Nguyen Kieu Phuong - Head of the Department of Education and Training (DET) of Binh Thuy District, Can Tho City - informed that regarding the above incident, the Department of Education and Training went to the school to verify the incident. According to the school's report, the incident happened about a week ago, because the students had a conflict on social networks, they made an appointment and fought.
After discovering the incident, the school invited the parents of the two students to come and resolve the issue. The parents also agreed on the school's resolution, acknowledged their responsibility in the incident, and agreed to re-educate the students.
As for the student who was beaten, after the incident, he still went to school and his health was stable and normal.
According to Ms. Phuong, the Department of Education and Training has also sent a document to the Department of Education and Training to quickly report on the content of the incident.
Regarding the students smoking recorded in the clip, the school has dealt with these students. Currently, parents also know that their children smoke at school and promise to monitor and re-educate them.
The school has implemented in the flag salute class as well as the homeroom teacher's activities to strengthen solutions to early detect students' violations of school regulations.
"In the coming time, we, together with relevant units such as the police, local authorities, Youth Union, etc., will strengthen education for children on how to prevent social evils, including issues of tobacco use, drugs and school violence," Ms. Phuong added.
