Lang Son Provincial People's Committee has just approved a project to consolidate and develop the system of ethnic minority boarding schools for the period 2026-2030, with a total estimated cost of more than 584 billion VND.
The whole province currently has 11 schools, including one provincial ethnic minority boarding high school and 10 inter-level secondary and high schools.
In the 2025-2026 school year, the schools have 141 classes with 4,233 students, accounting for about 6.3% of ethnic minority students at the same level in the area.
All 11 schools have met national standards. However, most of the works were built from the period 2013-2015, and many items are degraded.
The increase in the scale of students after being converted into inter-level schools also puts pressure on dormitories, cafeterias and living infrastructure.
The total land area of the system is about 13.63 ha. Many schools have small campuses, no longer having room to build more works.
Dinh Lap Ethnic Minority Boarding Secondary and High School is only about 0.49 ha, Van Lang 0.53 ha; some other schools also have an area of less than one ha.
According to the project, the province will expand the land fund at 8 schools, complete the marker planting and issuance of land use right certificates.
The system is expected to repair 30 classrooms, build 36 new classrooms; repair 24 and build 46 more subject classrooms. About 220 dormitory rooms are renovated, and 113 other rooms are newly built.
In the total implementation budget, more than 330 billion VND is allocated for infrastructure investment; nearly 254 billion VND is used to purchase equipment, implement regimes for students, support schools and train teachers.
By the school year 2030-2031, Lang Son aims to increase the scale of ethnic minority boarding schools to 5,110 students, including 1,680 secondary school students and 3,430 high school students.
The province also requires all schools to manage in a digital environment, supplement libraries and digital learning materials; over 80% of teachers organize online classes, apply artificial intelligence to teaching.
