Start a new way of learning
After years of high school with a relatively fixed schedule, entering university means that students must get used to a completely different way of studying. No longer having regular reminders from teachers or family, each person must be more proactive in receiving knowledge and arranging time.
Le Thi Anh Thu - a 4th year student at the Academy of Journalism and Propaganda - believes that the first months at university are a necessary time for students to get used to and adjust themselves.
In the early days of university, I was quite surprised because the learning method was very different from high school. After a while, I realized that the most important thing is to be proactive. Students should learn about the content of the lesson in advance, boldly exchange with lecturers and actively participate in activities to quickly integrate into the new environment" - Anh Thu shared.
Nguyen Thi Thanh Hang - a new graduate of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, also believes that proactiveness is an important factor when entering the university environment.
At university, teachers don't always remind you of what to study and do. Therefore, from the first year, students should develop the habit of taking responsibility for their studies. When there are homework, exam schedules or personal activities, you need to proactively arrange them instead of waiting until the deadline to implement them" - Thanh Hang said.
From the reality of teaching and supporting students, M.A. Do Ngoc Anh - Director of the Center for Communication and Enrollment, Hanoi Open University - said that the university learning method has many differences from high school.
Accordingly, lecturers not only simply convey knowledge but also play a role in orienting and suggesting for students to explore and develop their abilities.
“You should build a study and living plan for yourself to stick to that plan, have your own roadmap” - M.A. Do Ngoc Anh shared.

Self-reliance from small things
One of the clearest changes when entering university is that students must manage their own lives. Especially for those from provinces and cities coming to big cities to study, living away from family requires higher self-reliance and discipline.
From the wake-up time, class schedule, time to complete homework to resting and eating, everything needs to be arranged reasonably. When parents are no longer by their side to remind them, students need to form the habit of proactively managing themselves.
Besides studying, many students also participate in clubs, extracurricular activities or part-time jobs. These are experiences that can help young people accumulate skills, expand relationships and better understand the professional environment. However, if you do not know how to balance, participating in too many activities can also affect academic results.
M.A. Do Ngoc Anh believes that the university environment creates conditions for students to have more choices. With the form of credit-based training, learners can proactively build a learning path suitable for their abilities and personal goals.
Therefore, instead of waiting for others to remind them, students need to clearly define the goals of each semester, allocate time for study, social activities and rest.
For new students, initial changes may make them feel pressured or unfamiliar. However, this is also an opportunity for each person to gradually form self-reliance, self-learning ability and time management skills.
University is not only a journey to accumulate professional knowledge but also a time for young people to experience, explore themselves and prepare for their future career path. A suitable plan, proactive spirit and discipline from small things will help new students quickly adapt to the new environment.
