Proposal for high school graduation exam 3 weeks early
The Hanoi Department of Education and Training has just sent a document to the Ministry of Education and Training requesting an adjustment to the exam schedule for the 2025 high school graduation exam.
Accordingly, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training proposed that the Ministry of Education and Training adjust the exam schedule earlier than the draft was announced. This is also a recommendation of Ho Chi Minh City.
In a document sent to the Department of Quality Management - Ministry of Education and Training, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu - Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City said that in the context of the whole country implementing the arrangement and merger of provinces and cities, ending district-level tasks and implementing research and proposals to continue to reorganize the apparatus of the political system, adjusting the high school graduation exam schedule earlier to ensure the rights of students, stabilize the psychology of parents and students.
At the same time, it facilitates the preparation of localities to organize the high school graduation exam safely, seriously, and in accordance with regulations. At the same time, Mr. Hieu recommended that the Ministry of Education and Training soon issue a document directing, a plan for organizing and a schedule for the high school graduation exam.
Nghe An and Ninh Binh provinces also hope that the 2025 high school graduation exam will be pushed up about 3 weeks earlier than expected.
Regarding the proposal for the 2025 high school graduation exam 3 weeks earlier than the old schedule, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training, said that this is a big issue that the Ministry will consider before deciding.
According to Mr. Ha, preparation for the high school graduation exam is decentralized to the locality. However, in the general spirit, if they have to be shifted, there will be a plan that will have little impact on the entire system. This is a big problem that will be carefully considered before deciding.
Some say reasonable things, some are still wondering
Mr. Huynh Thanh Phu - Principal of Bui Thi Xuan High School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) said that the proposals of localities are reasonable. We have long been used to having about 1 more month to review the exam after the end of the school year, however, with the current situation when merging provinces and cities, if the exam takes place during the merger, it can cause disruption in the organization.
Therefore, we should organize the exam earlier, before the merger to make the exam take place safely and smoothly. However, Mr. Phu said that this will also partly affect a part of the student, especially in areas that are still difficult, without conditions and time for review and extra study.
"In fact, many students often wait until the end of the school year to review at school. This period of time is very important, helping students to consolidate and improve their knowledge. However, if the exam is held in early June now, while the school year ends at the end of May, students will not have this time to review," said Mr. Phu.
From there, Mr. Phu suggested that it should be considered so that 12th graders can finish their study program earlier, around April. Thus, students will also have time to review before the exam.
Ms. Van Lien Na - Vice Principal of Luong The Vinh Secondary and High School (Tan Trieu, Hanoi) expressed concern that organizing the exam early could affect students' review and psychology. Most importantly, this can affect the review process of students.
"I think all regulations related to important competitions need to be announced a year in advance, so that students as well as schools have a specific plan" - Ms. Na said and recommended that the Ministry of Education and Training consider and carefully evaluate the change of the graduation exam schedule at this stage.
2025 is the first year that high school students will take the high school graduation exam according to the 2018 General Education Program. According to the announced plan, the high school graduation exam will be held on June 26 and 27, 2025.
Candidates will take 4 subjects including: Math, Literature and 2 elective subjects from the remaining subjects (Foreign Language, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economic and Legal Education, Information Technology, Technology).
