From National First Prize to History Pedagogy freshman
Bui Thien Nghia, a former student of Hoang Le Kha High School for the Gifted (Tay Ninh), has just become a new student of the History Pedagogy major, Hanoi National University of Education.
Among the total of 284 K76 new students enrolled in the Faculty of History, Hanoi National University of Education, Thien Nghia is the only student to win the First Prize in the national excellent student selection exam in History for the 2025 - 2026 school year. In high school years, Thien Nghia also won the Second Prize at the provincial level twice and won the Silver Medal at the Traditional Olympics 30. 4.
Behind that golden record is no shortage of challenges. For Thien Nghia, the biggest difficulty is spending a lot of time reviewing the excellent student team, studying History in depth with a large amount of knowledge, while still balancing the study of other subjects in class.
Learning is not just about remembering events and dates, but more importantly, it is about understanding the nature, knowing how to analyze, compare and recognize history in broader relationships" - Nghia shared.
The deeper he learned, the more the male student realized that History is not just numbers or events. Behind each milestone is a story about people, choices, aspirations and sacrifices of generations. This is also the reason Nghia determined to continue to stick with the subject after graduating from high school.
With the first national prize, Nghia chose History Pedagogy as his top wish and became a new student of Hanoi National University of Education to be able to bring the values of History closer to students with new, lively and suitable methods for the younger generation.
According to the male student, teaching History today should not just stop at conveying knowledge about events, characters or timelines. In the context that students are exposed to a large amount of information in cyberspace, teachers also have a role to help them form independent thinking, know how to verify and identify false information about history.
Nghia hopes that in the future, teaching methods can be innovated so that students do not simply study History because it is a subject, but truly understand, love and be proud of national history.
Traveling thousands of kilometers to pursue dreams
Choosing Hanoi National University of Education also meant Nghia had to leave Tay Ninh, starting a student life thousands of kilometers away from his family.
The male student said that the decision to go to Hanoi once made him and his family have to consider a lot. In the end, Nghia chose this school because the teacher training and scientific research environment is suitable for the orientation of pursuing History Pedagogy.
With the geographical distance, Nghia determined that he would have to get used to the Northern climate, life away from home, and at the same time learn how to take care of himself, manage time, spend and be more proactive in studying.
I want to see this as an opportunity to train independence, bravery and adaptability" - Nghia said.
During his university years, Nghia set a goal to improve his professional knowledge of History, foreign languages, research methods and pedagogical capacity. Further, the male student plans to continue his master's studies, researching in depth in History and educational science.
Entering the new school year, Nghia expects the university environment to help him not only accumulate knowledge but also become more mature in thinking, bravery and responsibility.
