According to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, on the afternoon of October 14, prolonged heavy rain caused some roads in Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City to be deeply flooded.
People driving vehicles on flooded roads have difficulty. Many vehicles have stalled and had to be pushed, and some drivers with weak steering skills have even fallen while driving through deep water.
The water level rose, overflowing onto sidewalks and people's shops, causing obstacles and affecting business and trading.
Sharing with Lao Dong, Mr. Dang Hung (Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city) said that normally he sells broken rice from 3:30 pm to 11:30 pm, but today the rain was so heavy that the entire business premises were flooded, so he had to close the shop and let his employees go.
“The heavy rain caused about 0.5m of flooding. I and many other people here cannot do business, so today we have no income,” said Mr. Hung.
In particular, on Tran Van Hoai Street (Ninh Kieu District), heavy rain at school closing time caused many students and parents to have difficulty picking up and dropping off their children.
Bich Tuyen (a student studying at the Center for Vocational Education - Continuing Education in Ninh Kieu District) said that she wore ao dai and got wet and dirty in the rain, and it was also difficult to move.
“Some students had to walk their electric bikes when they were stopped, and fell down, getting soaked. Many students had to stay at school and wait for the rain to stop before going home because they were afraid of the danger of driving on rainy roads,” Bich Tuyen said.
As of 7:00 p.m., water levels on the roads were still rising, the rain had not stopped, and many students and parents were still standing in front of the school gate waiting for the rain to stop so they could go home.
According to the Can Tho City Hydrometeorological Station, this afternoon (October 14), convective clouds developed, causing rain, showers and thunderstorms in the districts of Ninh Kieu, Binh Thuy, Phong Dien, Co Do... of Can Tho City. Rain from 4-6pm, measured rainfall was 113mm.
