Teachers and contract staff hope to be recruited
Mr. P.H.H. (35 years old), a contract teacher at a secondary school in Thanh Vinh ward, has taught under a contract regime for 13 years. During more than a decade of association, he has always completed his tasks well, and has been recognized for many professional achievements. What he wants most right now is a position on the payroll to confidently contribute for a long time. "As long as I am not on the payroll, I will always worry. I just hope to be stable to continue to do the job I love the coach confided.
At Nghi Thuy Secondary School (Cua Lo Ward), a female teacher also had a 13-year contract under an indefinite-term regime signed by the People's Committee of Cua Lo Town (old). She has achieved many achievements: excellent teacher at the town level, emulation fighter, and was awarded a certificate of merit by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee. "I just hope to be recruited to the payroll to work with peace of mind. After many years of being attached to the school, I still have to wait for the opportunity" - she shared. Her concern increased after the Nghe An Department of Education and Training issued a recruitment notice, but long-term contract teachers were not in the priority group.
Nghi Thuy Secondary School currently has 4 teachers and 2 contract staff, one with at least 10 years of contract, the longest with more than 20 years. Ms. Phan Thi Thuy Hai, Principal of the school, said that contract teachers are all core forces, playing an important role in teaching activities. A typical example is Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, a Math teacher, Head of the Natural Science Group, with more than 20 years of contracts. "The school has proposed a regime for contract teachers and I hope that all levels will have specific instructions to resolve it" - Ms. Hai said.
Priority in recruiting teachers and contract staff
In the 2025-2026 school year recruitment period, Nghe An considered recruiting 829 positions, including 780 teachers and 49 staff. The process is carried out through 2 rounds: reviewing documents and conducting professional interviews. Policy beneficiaries will be given priority points from 2.5 to 7.5 points. Meanwhile, long-term contract teachers are only given priority when the contract was signed before 2015, within their authority and with full insurance - something that not all cases meet.
According to the Nghe An Department of Education and Training, this is the first recruitment round after the operation of the two-level government, the authority to recruit teachers in the whole province is assigned to the Department of Education and Training. Nghe An Education and Training Department is committed to implementing recruitment according to the correct process, publicly, transparently, fairly, creating conditions for candidates with the best capacity to be recruited and contribute to the education sector.
According to the representative of the Organizing Committee of Nghe An Department of Education and Training, the whole province currently has more than 200 contract teachers signed by district-level administrative units (before the merger) and have not yet been recruited into the payroll. Most of them have over 10 years of experience, experience and professional qualifications he said.
Regarding the staff source, a representative of the Department of Education and Training said that Nghe An has just had 1,700 additional teachers, but 1,000 of them are under the streamlining quota, so in reality, there are only about 700 positions left. "Therefore, it is not possible to recruit all contract teachers. Every year, when there are targets, we will continue to recruit and will have certain priorities for this team. The goal is to recruit all current contract teachers in the next 3 years" - said a representative of the Nghe An Department of Education and Training.
In the context of limited staffing, the concern of contract teachers is completely well-founded. With the commitment from the education sector, many teachers still hope for the opportunity to soon stabilize their jobs after many years of dedication.
