The above inadequacies were raised at the scientific conference "Arts education oriented towards developing qualities and capacities in general education establishments in Vietnam" organized by the Faculty of Arts, Hanoi University of Education. office on August 21.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Trinh Hoai Thu - Deputy Director of the Department of Primary Education, Ministry of Education and Training, statistics for the 2023 - 2024 school year, there are about 2,400 high schools nationwide. If only each school needs at least 1 Music teacher and 1 Art teacher, high school level is lacking about 4,800 teachers for these two subjects. Along with that, the shortage of Music and Art teachers still occurs at the secondary level, although not much. The number of teachers of this subject at the basic elementary level has been met.
Ms. Thu said that the training of society's Music and Fine Arts teachers for high schools is extremely urgent. But in reality, according to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, the number of trained Music and Fine Arts pedagogy students at the university level is quite large nationwide, up to more than 6,000 people (as of the last school year).
"However, whether graduates can become teaching profession or not - that is a problem" - Ms. Thu said.
Associate Professor, Dr. Ha Hoa - Dean of the Faculty of Art and Design of Dai Nam University - also stated the situation: "A quick survey, many Music pedagogy students graduate from high school teaching but cannot identify what it means to be a teacher." Ca tru, Xam, Cheo, Quan Ho. However, some schools do not let them study. So, when teaching, the identification is wrong, how can the teacher teach?
Ms. Hoa also expressed concern that when training schools teach too academically, they also "teach" those academic things to students, causing confusion.
Agreeing with the above viewpoint, Associate Professor, Dr. Trinh Hoai Thu said that there needs to be a training program for teachers to be able to meet and have the ability to teach appropriately in high schools, especially in high schools. with the new general education program.
“We want teachers to graduate to practice the requirements of the high school curriculum, not to become a performing artist. We need a teacher who may not be an excellent performer, but must know how to use musical instruments and be able to convey knowledge so that students can understand and do it" - Ms. Thu said.
Speaking at the conference, Dr. Pham Van Tuyen - lecturer at the Vietnam Women's Academy - said that training art teachers in general and fine arts in particular in Vietnam in the current educational reform roadmap lacks practicality.
According to Mr. Tuyen, previously trained teachers are not competent enough to undertake all educational content specified in the 2018 General Education Program, especially educational content at the secondary level. universal. The teaching staff participating in teacher training has not mastered the 2018 General Education Program, so inadequacies have occurred with the risk of having consequences for many years.
