Instead of returning to their hometown during the holidays, many students choose to stay in Hanoi, taking advantage of working part-time when the workload increases and the income is also higher than usual.

The 5-day holiday is a time many students look forward to returning to their hometowns to reunite with their families. However, for a part of students studying in Hanoi, this is an opportunity to take advantage of working extra and earning extra income.

Increased income, students take advantage of shifts

Sharing with reporters, Nguyen Hoai Phuong (from Thanh Hoa) - a 3rd year student at a university in Hanoi - decided to stay in Hanoi during the National Day holiday on September 2nd to work part-time. Phuong said that she wanted to save money to buy a laptop for her studies, so she took advantage of 5 days off to work extra shifts.

On weekdays, Phuong still maintains her part-time job besides her study schedule. On holidays without being hindered by class schedules, female students register to work more shifts. The salary in these days is also higher than on weekdays, helping Phuong to accumulate more for personal goals.

I want to buy a laptop to serve my studies, so I try to save up. During holidays, the school holiday is off, and the salary is higher than usual, so I take advantage of working part-time, both to have more income and to achieve my goals soon" - Phuong shared.

Similarly, Nguyen Thao Nhi (from Nghe An) - a 2nd year student at a university in Hanoi - also chose to stay in the city during the holidays instead of returning to her hometown. Having already worked part-time at a restaurant, Nhi took advantage of the school holiday to work more shifts in these 5 days.

Nhi said that on normal days she is paid 19,000 VND/hour. During holidays, the wage increases 3 times, to 57,000 VND/hour. Because she is not hindered by school schedules, female students can work more shifts, thereby significantly increasing her income during the holidays.

Normally, I still work at the shop, doing a few shifts a week to avoid affecting my studies. Holidays are off, so I take advantage of working more. The wage is 3 times higher than usual, so I want to take advantage of this time to earn more" - Nhi shared.

Part-time job associated with major

Nguyen Van Hoang (from Ninh Binh) - a student majoring in Engineering at a college in Hanoi - said that he decided to stay in Hanoi during this year's holiday.

According to Hoang, during the recent summer vacation, he spent quite a long time in his hometown, so this holiday he decided to stay in Hanoi. Instead, the male student registered to work part-time at a car repair and maintenance shop.

During long holidays, many people take advantage of taking their cars for maintenance, so the number of customers has increased compared to normal days, but not too much. Thanks to that, I am arranged to work more extra. The wages are calculated double compared to normal days, and there are bonuses" - Hoang shared.

Hoang's job mainly involves supporting car repair and maintenance and some other technical jobs. This is also a job suitable for the major, so the male student believes that part-time work not only helps earn extra income but is also an opportunity to accumulate practical experience.

Hoang plans to spend most of the time during the 5-day holiday going to work. After the holiday ends, he returns to his normal study schedule.

Working during holidays is quite hard, but the income is higher than usual. I also want to take advantage of this time to save some money for studying and living in the coming months" - Hoang said.
