The competition ratio is a common term to indicate the level of competition when enrolling. This index is calculated by the number of candidates registering for nguyện vọng 1 divided by the total enrollment quota of the school.
This index reflects the level of competition and is often used as a reference when choosing aspirations.
According to statistics in region 1 (Ho Chi Minh City before the merger), 2025 recorded many schools with high competition levels. Leading is Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School with a competition ratio of 1/4.61, which means on average nearly 1 candidate out of nearly 5 exam takers is admitted.
Following are Nguyen Huu Huan High School (1/2.39), Vinh Loc High School (1/2.13), Pham Van Sang High School (1/2.11).
The group of schools with a competition ratio of nearly 1/2 includes: Le Quy Don High School (1/1.95), Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School (1/1.92), Phu Nhuan High School (1/1.79), Vo Truong Toan High School (1/1.78), Ngo Quyen High School (1/1.75) and Nguyen Huu Cau High School (1/1.73). These are the 10 high schools (regular system) with the highest competition ratio in 2025.

In 2026, the competition ratio for each school will be available after the Department of Education and Training announces the number of students registering for nguyện vọng 1 in public high schools, expected to be announced on May 4.
After that, students can consider adjusting the registered aspirations (add, remove, change the order), but are not allowed to register for additional types of enrollment.
Previously, on April 29, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training (GDĐT) announced the 10th grade enrollment targets for each high school in the 2026-2027 school year.
In the 2026-2027 school year, the total enrollment target of public high schools is more than 118,000 students, equivalent to more than 70% of the total of more than 169,000 students completing the secondary school program.
