The Department of Education and Training (DET) of Ho Chi Minh City has announced the enrollment quota for grade 10 in the 2025-2026 school year of 115 public high schools.
Accordingly, the total target for 10th grade admission this year in the city is 70,070 students, reaching a rate of 79% compared to the number of students expected to graduate from secondary school of about 88,000.
Compared to last year, the enrollment rate this year has increased by 14% (in 2024 it is 65%). This helps students have higher opportunities to be admitted to public high schools.
This year, each student can register 3 regular 10th grade wishes, 2 specialized wishes and 3 integrated 10th grade wishes. Students will register their wishes online on the system deployed by the Department of Education and Training.
Mr. Cao Duc Khoa - Principal of Huynh Khuong Ninh Secondary School (District 1) advised that students and parents should base on factors such as academic performance, distance from home to school and desire to register wishes.
"Among them, based on academic performance is the most important thing. This is why students and parents should consult with teachers for each subject in the 10th grade entrance exam," said Mr. Khoa.
Mr. Khoa also noted that students should pay attention when making wishes. In particular, Aspiration 1 can be placed in the desired school based on the consultation of the subject teachers.
Wishing 2 to register according to their academic ability and wish 3 to register to the school to ensure solid tuition at public high schools. In which, it refers to the additional benchmark scores of previous years, ensuring the gap between the wishes 1, 2 and 3 from 1.5 to 2 points.
In addition, he said that students should choose to register their wishes near their current residence to avoid the case of being admitted but not submitting documents.
According to the schedule for organizing the entrance exam for grade 10 in the 2025-2026 school year issued by the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, on May 14, the department will announce the number of students registering for 1 wish to each school, creating a basis for parents and students to adjust their wishes if necessary.
From here, students and parents will know the affiliation rate of each school and can adjust their wishes within the period from May 14-19 if needed.
The 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City will take place on June 6 and 7. Candidates will take 3 subjects: Math, Literature (120 minutes/subject) and Foreign Language (90 minutes, according to foreign language 1 being studied at school). Candidates who register for a specialized school or integrated class will take an additional exam in a specialized subject or equivalent integrated (150 minutes).
This year, depending on the number of actual records and the needs of the schools, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City will consider additional admissions to high schools that still lack many targets.
