In February 1980, the family received a death certificate informing him that he had died. After that, the locality and the family held a memorial service and built an altar to him from that day on.
"My father passed away early, and my mother, since hearing the news of Mr. Long's sacrifice, every time anyone mentioned him, she was in tears. A few years ago, she died of old age, but before her death, she was still in pain, hoping to find Mr. Long's grave" - Mrs. Coi said.

Unexpectedly recall memories
According to Major Hoang Van Chien - Head of Quang Hai Commune Police, he is also the one who participated in connecting the family of Ms. Huynh Thi Hang (in An Giang Province) - the person who has taken care of and nurtured Mr. Long for decades and Mr. Long's relatives in his hometown.
To find relatives for Mr. Long, Mrs. Hangs grandchild posted the information on social media and contacted the Quang Hai Commune Police. When I received the information, I went to Mr. Long's relative's house, showed his family photos and videos, then the whole family confirmed that it was Mr. Long. Over the phone, we were both happy and scheduled a date to pick them up Major Chien shared.

Explaining why after many years of having information about her hometown, Ms. Huynh Thi Hang (76 years old) said: One day in early 1985, her husband went out on the street and brought in a young man with a weakness, malaria, and slurred speech.
At that time, my family was very poor, with 7 children. I also told my husband: "My child can't worry yet, how can I take care of a stranger?". But the whole family still decided to let him stay and named him Tong Ms. Hang recalled.
According to Ms. Hang, at first, Mr. Long was often sick, did not speak clearly, could not remember his name, and did not know his hometown. Her family bought medicine to treat him, his health gradually recovered and he has lived with her family until now.
On April 10, while playing with Mrs. Hang's grandchild, Mr. Long suddenly recalled his memories and said his name was Nguyen The Long, from near Dai market, Quang Hai commune, Quang Xuong district, Thanh Hoa province.
Shortly thereafter, grandson Mrs. Hang posted information on social networks, and contacted the Quang Hai Commune Police for verification. Through population data, the police discovered that the local person named Nguyen The Long was recognized as a martyr. After carefully comparing the information, the family determined that Mr. Long was still alive and sent people to An Giang to welcome him. On April 15, Mr. Long returned in the arms of his family and his neighbors.
