Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Ms. Vu Thi Khuong - Principal of Khanh Thuong Primary School (Ba Vi commune, Hanoi) said that the school has implemented many steps to prepare for boarding students from the new school year 2025-2026.
According to Ms. Khuong, since the beginning of August, the school has posted directive documents of the Hanoi People's Council and People's Committee on lunch on class groups and the school's Fanpage, and homeroom teachers have directly informed parents. After that, the school issued a form for parents to register, compile and report to the People's Committee of the commune.
In the next step, when the Commune People's Committee changes the list of units submitting applications for food supply, the school will establish a council to select suitable units and conduct bidding.
"Currently, these procedures have been completed and successfully registered on the public service portal" - Ms. Khuong said.
In the new school year 2025-2026, Khanh Thuong Primary School has 680 students, of whom 640 students registered for boarding. This number is many times higher than last year, when only 220/712 students participated.
Those who do not register for meals for the new school year are mainly students living near school, obese students or vegetarian families.
Most parents are very happy and excited. In this area, more than 60% of students are children of ethnic minorities, many families have difficult circumstances. Therefore, the city's support for boarding meals is very meaningful" - Ms. Khuong shared.
The female principal also said that in her first year on duty (2023-2024), she mobilized friends and benefactors to support some free meals and rice for the students. Last year, about 20 students received free lunch thanks to socialization support.
Khanh Thuong Primary School has two locations 5 km apart. The main location has a kitchen and dining room, while the separate locations will be transported with meals from the main location. The school and the supplier are committed to ensuring safety during transportation.
On September 3, the school met with the Parents' Representative Board to report the results of the old school year, the plan for the new school year and information on boarding work.
Parents all agree and trust the school. Right from the first session of the new school year, students will be given boarding meals. From now until now, the school will complete the facilities and clean the classrooms to welcome the students" - Ms. Khuong affirmed.
Similarly, at Van Hoa Primary School (Yen Bai Commune), Mr. Phung Hai Nam - Principal of the school said that last year, the number of students registered for boarding only accounted for 1/3 due to economic conditions of many families that were still facing difficulties. This year, when the city supported free meals, nearly 100% of parents registered to give their children boarding meals.
"The school and the locality are rushing to complete the procedures so that from August 8, students can have lunch right at school" - Mr. Nam informed.
According to the principal, the policy of supporting boarding meals not only helps students have more conditions to study and practice but also creates confidence and motivation for parents and teachers, especially in areas with many difficulties such as Ba Vi area.
