Quang Ninh Department of Education and Training is continuing to coordinate with relevant units to deploy the installation of solar power and air conditioning systems at public schools throughout the province.
According to Mr. Dinh Ngoc Son - Deputy Director of Quang Ninh Department of Education and Training, regarding air conditioning alone, in the immediate future, Quang Ninh province will invest in installing about 12,000 air conditioners in public school classrooms throughout the province.
According to statistics, there are currently about 17,000 air conditioners in public schools throughout the province, of which over 10,000 are installed in classrooms.
About 70% of classrooms in the province have been equipped with air conditioning, averaging 2 air conditioners/class. However, investment is still uneven between localities, especially in mountainous, island, difficult areas and remote school sites.
Meanwhile, the demand for electricity is increasing. In 2025, public preschool and general education institutions in the province consumed more than 19.5 million kWh of electricity, with a total payment cost of over 44 billion VND. In just the first 5 months of 2026, electricity consumption reached more than 10.7 million kWh, equivalent to a cost of over 24.3 billion VND. Currently, most of the electricity costs for air conditioning operation are still contributed by students and parents.
To reduce the pressure of electricity costs and improve learning conditions for students, Quang Ninh province has assigned the Quang Ninh Department of Education and Training to coordinate with relevant units to survey and comprehensively assess the current situation, needs and feasibility of investing in rooftop solar power systems at public educational institutions.
Based on the survey results, research units should develop a roadmap for implementation in the 2026-2030 period and the following years; in the immediate future, priority should be given to educational institutions with large student scale, stable facilities and suitable for local development orientations.
