New textbooks on shelves
From the 2026-2027 school year, the Ministry of Education and Training decided to choose the "Connecting Knowledge with Life" set of Vietnam Education Publishing House as a unified textbook set.
According to Lao Dong's records, at present, many bookstores have begun to prepare a supply of books for the new school year.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai Yen - owner of a bookstore in O Dien commune, Hanoi - said: "At this time, bookstores are contacting to import the "Connecting Knowledge with Life" set. The supply is quite stable, so there will be enough books for parents and children quickly.
According to Ms. Hai Yen, some bookstores like hers still have sets of books from last year such as "Cánh diều", "Chân trời sáng tạo". In the near future, when the number of books this year arrives fully, she will rearrange the booth so that parents can easily choose.
When using a common set, the bookstore will manage books more easily to ensure they are always sufficient for students. For old sets of books, the bookstore plans to set up a reference book booth for parents who need to find more books for their children" - Ms. Hai Yen said.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang - parent of a student at Hong Ha Elementary School (O Dien commune, Hanoi) - shared that unifying a set of books helps parents to be more convenient when preparing for the new school year for their children.
Previously, my 3 children used 2 different sets of books because at 2 levels of education, the school still allowed parents to register to ensure that their children have enough books. However, if parents want to prepare themselves in advance for their children to get used to it, it is quite complicated because not every bookstore will have both sets, usually it will take 2-3 bookstores" - Ms. Hang confided.
When she knew she would agree to use the "Connecting Knowledge with Life" set, Ms. Hang proactively went to bookstores early to ask for information in advance and see the difference compared to the set of books her children were studying.
I think unifying a set of books will help parents find and buy them more easily, and guiding their children to study will also be more systematic. Parents can easily order according to the school, buy online or go to bookstores" - Ms. Hang added.
Careful preparation, ready for the new school year 2026 - 2027
The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) said that currently, the ministry has completed the adjustment of textbook content, especially in the subjects of History, Geography, and Civic Education, in accordance with the adjustment of administrative boundaries when transitioning from a 3-level government model to 2 levels.
The goal set by the Ministry of Education and Training is to ensure the full supply of textbooks to schools and teachers no later than 20 days before the opening ceremony.
Regarding prices, implementing the commitment to improve book quality in parallel with reducing production and circulation costs, Vietnam Education Publishing House (NXBGDVN) said that textbook prices for the 2026-2027 school year from grades 1 to 12 have been adjusted, down an average of 13.3% compared to the textbook prices of the previous school year.
In addition to distribution work, the Ministry of Education and Training said that teacher training is carried out in a focused direction, focusing on the contents that need to be answered, avoiding spreading out. With a professional foundation, teachers can teach effectively with different sets of textbooks.
In the coming time, the Ministry of Education and Training will continue to refine and supplement the contents according to Resolution 71-NQ/TW such as: Increasing the duration of science and technology, innovation, STEM education, digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI) subjects. At the same time, strengthening life skills, culture, and arts education to ensure output standards but not overload students.
