On the morning of November 1, the Department of Education and Training of Quang Tri province confirmed that as of October 31, thousands of students in Quang Tri province were still absent from school due to localized flooding, or because schools had not been cleaned after the floodwaters receded.
In Hai Lang district, 16/39 kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools with 5,216 students were absent from school to avoid the flood. In Vinh Linh district, 100 students were absent so that the school could clean up and disinfect the classrooms due to flooding. In Trieu Phong district, more than 1,000 students were absent from school because their classrooms were flooded and were being cleaned up...
To help students return to school soon, as soon as the flood waters receded, forces were mobilized to coordinate with the school to organize cleanup.
Since October 29, 150 youth union members of the Quang Tri Provincial Police Volunteer Team have been mobilized to support the two most heavily flooded communes, Vinh Son and Vinh Lam (Vinh Linh District). The team has prioritized supporting the removal of mud and soil from school grounds and residential areas.
In addition to the police force, youth and military forces were also mobilized to help with the flood situation as it receded.
Quang Binh still has tens of thousands of students who cannot go to school.
On the morning of November 1, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Quang Binh province, Nguyen Dinh Hai, said that schools are in the process of cleaning and checking safety conditions after the flood before students return to school.
Up to now, about 23,000 students from 59 educational institutions in the province have not been able to go to class because the water has not receded or they have not had time to clean up and repair after the storm and flood. Of these, 54 schools are in Le Thuy district and 5 schools are in Quang Ninh district.
The Department has directed functional departments and schools under the Department to take the initiative in the recovery process. “Machines and electronic devices have been moved to the second floor to ensure safety. The main task of the schools will focus on cleaning up desks, chairs, and classrooms so that students can return to school soon,” said Mr. Hai.
Mr. Nguyen Van Vung - Head of the Department of Education and Training of Le Thuy district said that after the flood receded, the Department requested units to proactively carry out the work of cleaning schools and classrooms, ensuring environmental hygiene, checking the electrical systems of classrooms, facilities, teaching equipment and promptly repairing them.
Schools survey, grasp the situation, check key points in the area and the routes of teachers and students at the unit. When the school is truly safe, they will organize teaching again, and at the same time report to the Department of Education and Training (through all levels) 1 day in advance for information, monitoring and direction.
Vice Chairman of Le Thuy District People's Committee Le Van Son said that the water in the area has receded quite deeply, the district is checking the roads, cleaning houses and traffic routes to restore life.
“The district is focusing on restoring schools and medical stations to serve students and people. The Department of Natural Resources and Environment is working with the Department of Health to provide disinfectants after the storm and flood. The locality has had electricity since yesterday (October 31). Water is available but many places are still lacking. The district has requested the Quang Binh Water Supply Joint Stock Company to take measures to support people to have water as soon as possible to improve their lives,” said Mr. Son.
