Insomnia and insomnia
After the end of the 2025 high school graduation exam, many candidates fell into a state of confusion because they still did not know which major or school they should register their aspirations for. Many students expressed their being shy and worried because they did not fully understand their true interests and abilities.
Nguyen Thi Lan - a candidate taking the high school graduation exam in Hung Yen said: "I was very worried because I didn't know what I liked and was good at. Her parents hope she will pass the top university entrance exam, study a hot major so that she can easily apply for a job in the future, but she is afraid that her studies will not be suitable and she will be left unfinished in the middle" - Lan shared.
I heard many high school graduates share about being unemployed or having to work outside of their major. I am afraid that it will take me 4 years of time, waste my parents' money and then I won't be able to find a job, and then I will be left empty-handed in the volatile labor market" - Lan said.
Similarly, Le Dinh Duong - a candidate taking the high school graduation exam in Da Nang expressed his concern when facing the most important turn in 12 years of studying but not finding a way for himself.
"I still don't know what major I will major in. His parents wanted him to major in Information Technology because they told him that he had a high salary and could easily find a job after graduating. But I'm not good at Math, nor am I interested in computers" - Duong said.
The male student said that before, he only focused on studying to take the graduation exam, only when his friends started to make wishes, did Duong start worrying. I am most afraid of studying a major I dont like, graduating and becoming unemployed or doing illegal work. However, at present, I still don't know what profession I am really suitable for" - Duong confided.
Candidates need to understand themselves
Understanding the psychology of candidates, Ms. Do Thi Trami - a teacher at Hoa Binh La Trobe High School (Hanoi) said that career guidance for students not only begins in the final year of high school, but needs to be implemented early, from the first years of high school, even right from the junior high school level.
career is a long process. When I started to have aspirations, those orientations had to be maintained, nurtured and adjusted appropriately, avoiding the situation of passing the entrance exam and feeling that the major was not what I had imagined, developing depression and finally giving up" - Ms. Trami shared.
Current reality shows that many students choose majors and schools according to the majority and desires of their families without understanding themselves as well as the practical requirements of the profession. As a result, when entering the classroom, students are easily "disillusioned", lose motivation to study, and even become depressed or graduate from a school that is not in their major, wasting time, effort, and money.
Faced with that situation, Ms. Trami advised candidates to proactively learn about their major, labor market, social needs, and listen to advice from teachers and career guidance experts to make wise decisions instead of making hasty choices under pressure.
Regarding this issue, Dr. Tran Khac Thac - Head of Training Department, University of Water Resources - said that when standing at the doorstep of life, candidates must clearly understand what they are strong in and what they like.
You need to look back at the learning process, see which subjects and fields you are really good at, and which areas you have strengths in. At the same time, ask yourself if you are interested and ready to stick with that profession for a long time. When their strengths and passion are at the same time, they will have many opportunities to develop and stick with the profession they have chosen sustainably" - Dr. Thac emphasized.
