According to the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Soc Trang province, the locality currently has no university or university branch. Therefore, the establishment of Can Tho University Branch in Soc Trang province aims to solve the need for on-site learning, shortening the travel distance for students, people and officials, civil servants and public employees in the province when participating in university and postgraduate training classes. The number of students after graduating from high school will have more opportunities to study at university, contributing to increasing the proportion of highly qualified resources for the province.

The school closely coordinates with departments and branches of Soc Trang province to propose training programs, scientific research and technology transfer suitable for each development stage of the province, in order to contribute to improving the innovation index and promoting the sustainable development of the province.
