Soc Trang hands over facilities to establish Can Tho University Branch

PHƯƠNG ANH |

Soc Trang - On the morning of October 10, the Provincial People's Committee held a ceremony to temporarily hand over facilities to Can Tho University to establish a branch of the University in Soc Trang.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi - Vice Chairman of Soc Trang Provincial People's Committee - said that after many surveys, Soc Trang province and Can Tho University decided to choose Area A and Area B of Soc Trang Community College as the location for the branch and together promote the implementation of procedures to establish Can Tho University Branch in Soc Trang province.

The province has prepared documents and procedures to request the relevant ministries and agencies to transfer assets in Area A and Area B of Soc Trang Community College to Can Tho University. The value of the transferred assets according to accounting books is about 121.5 billion VND (about 2 hectares of land and some classrooms, administrative buildings, and other auxiliary works).

According to the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Soc Trang province, the locality currently has no university or university branch. Therefore, the establishment of Can Tho University Branch in Soc Trang province aims to solve the need for on-site learning, shortening the travel distance for students, people and officials, civil servants and public employees in the province when participating in university and postgraduate training classes. The number of students after graduating from high school will have more opportunities to study at university, contributing to increasing the proportion of highly qualified resources for the province.

The school closely coordinates with departments and branches of Soc Trang province to propose training programs, scientific research and technology transfer suitable for each development stage of the province, in order to contribute to improving the innovation index and promoting the sustainable development of the province.

In the 2025 school year, the branch is expected to train full-time university students, with 3 majors: Accounting, Law, Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
