Difficult living conditions are causing education in many border communes of Tay Ninh to face its own obstacles. The distance from home to school, the economic conditions of families, and the lack of synchronization in facilities make the problem of keeping students at school not only limited to classrooms.
Khanh Hung is an example. The commune has a border of nearly 28.5km adjacent to Cambodia, people mainly live by seasonal agricultural production. In the 2025-2026 school year, the whole commune has 2,219 students of all levels. Although the primary school completion rate reached 99.23%, secondary school reached 99.35% and the rate of maintaining class size reached 100%, the difficulties behind these figures are still present.
The school network in Khanh Hung has covered all levels of education, including 3 kindergartens, 1 primary school, 2 inter-level primary and secondary schools meeting national standards level 1 and 1 secondary and high school directly under the Department of Education and Training. Basic facilities meet the needs of teaching 2 sessions/day, but some schools still lack functional rooms, modern equipment, information technology infrastructure and space to serve STEM activities. From the reality of the disparity between localities, Tay Ninh is preparing to allocate significant resources for education in 19 border communes. According to the Department of Education and Training, the province plans to invest, repair, and build 19 general schools, focusing on primary and secondary schools, with a total investment of about 1,669 billion VND.
The orientation is to upgrade and repair existing schools into inter-level primary and secondary schools according to the semi-boarding model. Items such as kitchens, clean water, health and school security are also considered.
A noteworthy point is that the semi-boarding option is chosen based on actual needs. Surveys show that students in border communes do not have a high need for boarding school, so investing in large-scale boarding schools can be wasteful. Meanwhile, the semi-boarding model is assessed to be more suitable for students' learning and travel conditions. However, the investment of 1,669 billion VND is currently in the preparation stage.
The education problem in the border region is not only in building facilities but also in ensuring staff and policies to support students. Tay Ninh Department of Education and Training currently has more than 31,000 officials, teachers, and staff; in the 2025-2026 school year alone, 1,484 teachers and staff have been recruited additionally and continue to review, transfer, rotate, and assign suitable teachers.
In the 2026-2030 period, the province is expected to invest about 6,856 billion VND in education.
According to Director of Tay Ninh Department of Education and Training Nguyen Quang Thai, policies to support tuition fees, textbooks, semi-boarding meals and invest in 19 schools will contribute to maintaining the number of students, narrowing the educational gap, and creating better learning opportunities for students in border areas.
