People's Artist Lan Huong (born 1961), worked at the Vietnam Drama Theater until retirement. The artist won the Best Actress award at the International Film Festival in Singapore with the movie "Guava Season", in 2001.
She also made her mark with a series of TV series such as: "Village Wind", "Provincial Party Secretary", "Nếp nhà", "Vệt nắng cuối trời", "Sống chung với mẹ chồng", "Thương ngày nắng về", "Gia đình mình vui bất thình lình"...
Sharing with Lao Dong reporters, People's Artist Lan Huong said that many people call her "terrible mother-in-law" when in recent years she has transformed into a difficult mother-in-law, scrutinizing her daughter-in-law in TV series. However, the female artist does not feel bothered but feels happy because her roles are always remembered by the audience.
I used to play Mrs. Phuong in "Living with Mother-in-Law" and Mrs. Hien in "Love on a Sunny Day"... these two characters have unpleasant personalities, always bringing negative emotions to the audience.
When I watch it again, I also feel scared, but it's just a movie, in real life I'm more easy-going and comfortable...", she said.
Lan Huong said that since retiring, she has received many film invitations. She does not distinguish between main and supporting roles, but reads good film scripts, even if a director at VFC (Television Film Center, Vietnam Television) needs a character to "run through the screen", she also accepts.
Lan Huong recounted: "At that time, the crew was filming "Countdown Clock", they needed a character with few lines, only appearing for about 2-3 minutes. I also came to the filming location with Thanh Son. It was just a guest role but I didn't mind, the directors needed to call me.
At the age of over 60, Lan Huong is also one of the quite sought-after artists in the North, in addition to making films, she also participates in fostering young actors, being a judge in some beauty contests, models, participating in events...
To maintain her health, she always pays attention to her diet, using health-enhancing foods so that she does not bother her colleagues when she comes to the film crew.
In 2016, People's Artist Lan Huong retired under the regime. After many increases, she currently receives a pension of 7.5 million VND/month.
“We live very simply, my biological mother is living with us, so with such a pension, my husband and I take care of cooking, daily living, and medicine for my mother. My two sons have married, have children and move out, occasionally visiting grandmother and parents.
I think that when I was young, when I went on a business trip and came old, having a small amount of money, fixed monthly, was also a small joy.
We also do not have the view of having to accumulate and save a lot. My husband and I just want to aim for a peaceful and peaceful life until the end of our lives," she said.
Sharing about her daily schedule, the female artist said that if she goes to film, she usually wakes up at 5 am, has breakfast at home, then goes to the Television Station or a meeting point to go to the studio. At about 9-10 pm, the film crew returns to the inner city, she follows the bus home.
If she doesn't go to film, she stays at home to clean up, cook, take care of her mother and film TikTok clips.
For about 2 years now, she and her husband Do Ky have had their own TikTok channel, occasionally filming short clips, sharing about family life on the channel.
“We also bought a Pocket (a compact handheld video camera line), creating content and self-recording.
Initially, my husband and I didn't know where to start making TikTok, but young people said: "You guys just act naturally, the content is close to your surroundings, that's enough".
After that, we did it ourselves, wherever we went, whatever we did, we brought cameras out to film and asked them to set it up," she recounted.
She also considers herself a "teen grandmother" because she does not feel outdated by the new applications of young people.
Lan Huong confided: "I consider myself always youthful and up-to-date. When I have free time, I am not afraid to do TikTok with my daughter-in-law. I always think that I am old, the time left is not much, so if I can help my children with anything, I will do it.
