New points about aspirations
The Department of Education and Training of Can Tho City said that compared to the previous year when 5 aspirations were registered, the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2026 - 2027 school year, each candidate can only register a maximum of 4 aspirations.
Wish 1: specialized high schools (can register for 2 specialized subjects). Candidates registering their wishes for a specialized high school must participate in the entrance exam at that school.
Request 2: public high school or first Ethnic Minority Boarding School (PTDTNT) in the city, including the Pedagogical Practice School - Can Tho University.
Request 3: public high school or the second ethnic minority boarding school in the city, including the Pedagogical Practice School - Can Tho University;
Wish 4: Vocational Education - Continuing Education Centers (for both Kinh ethnic and ethnic minority students).
Expected enrollment targets
Data up to this point, Can Tho City will enroll over 35,000 10th grade students. Entrance exam group with a target of 23,120; admission group with a target of 9,184 students.
Based on the characteristics of each locality, in order to ensure the effectiveness of facilities and avoid overloading the staff of teachers, the expected enrollment targets of high schools in the city are determined as follows:
Notice time
Candidates take the subjects Literature, Mathematics, Foreign Language. For candidates taking specialized schools, specialized subjects will be added.
For Mathematics: the exam is in the form of multiple choice combined with essays, the exam time is 120 minutes.
Literature subject: exam in essay form, exam time 120 minutes.
Foreign Language (English or French): exam in the form of multiple choice combined with essays, exam time 60 minutes.
Specialized subjects have a test time of 150 minutes.
The exam content is within the secondary school program issued according to Circular No. 32/2018/TT-BGDDT dated December 26, 2018 of the Ministry of Education and Training, mainly grade 9.
The exam score is calculated on a scale of 10, taking the second decimal point, without rounding the score.
Accelerate review
At An Hoa 2 Secondary School (Cai Khe ward), right from the beginning of the school year, most secondary schools have planned and implemented teaching combined with review, increasing the number of periods for 3 exam subjects (Literature, Math, Foreign Language) during official school hours or in the afternoons. In the spirit of closely following the guidance and exam structure for 10th grade high school of the Department, students are currently accelerating their review to ensure the best results at the exam.
For Tran Hung Dao Secondary School (Ninh Kieu ward), the target is to achieve 95 - 96% of students admitted to 10th grade. The school principal said that subject teachers choose a review method suitable for the student group to consolidate and deepen core and basic knowledge; guide self-study and self-research methods, improve logical thinking ability, and knowledge application ability.
In fact, in Can Tho City, there are more than 45,000 9th grade students, but the enrollment quota for 10th grade public high schools in the 2026 - 2027 school year is only more than 32,000 students.
Thus, about 10,000 students will not be able to enter 10th grade public high schools. According to the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho City, based on academic records, students can still study in 10th grade at private schools.
