Gia Lai - On the morning of September 5th, from Mui Tan wharf, Quy Nhon ward, the working delegation crossed the sea to Nhon Chau to attend the opening ceremony with more than 200 students in the only island commune of the province.

On the morning of September 5th, the opening drum sounded in Nhon Chau island commune, Gia Lai province. More than 200 students of Nhon Chau Primary and Secondary School and 44 kindergarten children entered the new school year in the remote island.

From 5:30 am, at Mui Tan wharf (Quy Nhon ward), a ship left the wharf, crossing the sea towards Nhon Chau island commune.

On the journey to the island, the Gia Lai Provincial delegation brought gifts to officials, teachers and students, encouraging teachers and students of Nhon Chau to enter the new school year.

From early morning, the yard of Nhon Chau Primary and Secondary School was bustling with laughter. Students in neat clothes were present in large numbers, eagerly attending the opening ceremony and starting the new school year.

Nhon Chau, also known as Cu Lao Xanh, is the only island commune of Gia Lai province, about 24km from the mainland. Travel depends heavily on the weather, while transporting books, teaching equipment and essential items from the mainland to the island still faces many difficulties.

In the 2026-2027 school year, Nhon Chau Primary and Secondary School has 208 students, including 111 primary school students and 97 secondary school students. Nhon Chau Kindergarten welcomes 44 children.

Mr. Huynh Cong Thanh - Principal of Nhon Chau Primary and Secondary School - said that the facilities and conditions for teaching and learning are basically guaranteed. Textbooks for learning are also fully prepared.

According to Mr. Thanh, due to the specific characteristics of the island commune, maintaining the number of students and ensuring that students go to school fully is always a task that the school cares about. Last school year, the school maintained the number of students, and no students dropped out halfway.

Another difficulty is that Nhon Chau does not have a high school. After completing the secondary school program, students have to go to the mainland to continue studying. Being away from family, living expenses and travel conditions cause difficulties for many students and parents.

To support students, Gia Lai province has a policy of supporting more than 1.6 million VND per month for Nhon Chau students to study in the mainland. This is a source of support to help them have more conditions to continue their studies after leaving the island commune.

In the 2026-2027 school year, Gia Lai has 717 public preschool, general and continuing education institutions, including 701 preschool, general and 16 continuing education institutions. The whole province has 734,454 students, with a total of 40,284 managers, teachers, and staff.
