According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training (GDĐT), in the 2026-2027 school year, there are 5 schools enrolling grade 6 students in the form of competency assessment surveys, including: Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School (Sai Gon ward), Hoa Lu Secondary School (Tang Nhon Phu ward), Binh Tho Secondary School (Thu Duc ward), Tran Quoc Toan Secondary School (Binh Trung ward) and Nguyen An Ninh Secondary School (Tam Thang ward).
In which, Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School enrolls 10 classes with a total of 350 students. The admission condition is that students complete the primary school program in Ho Chi Minh City, and have a periodic year-end test score of grade 5 in two subjects Vietnamese and Math reaching 9 points or higher.
The Department of Education and Training will directly organize the survey for Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School, including developing questions, supervising surveys, grading papers and re-examining.
The survey takes place in 90 minutes, including 2 parts. The multiple-choice part has 20 questions, done in 30 minutes. The essay part lasts 60 minutes with the following contents: survey of English proficiency (reading comprehension, writing) in English; survey of mathematics and logic thinking proficiency; reading comprehension and writing proficiency in Vietnamese.
For Hoa Lu Secondary School, Binh Tho Secondary School, Tran Quoc Toan Secondary School and Nguyen An Ninh Secondary School, enrollment will be carried out according to the local plan and the project approved by the Department of Education and Training.
The Department of Education and Training will develop survey questions and provide professional support to ensure fairness and objectivity. Ward People's Committees are responsible for issuing guidelines, organizing surveys, grading papers and resolving re-exams.
Parents who need to register their children to participate in the survey can contact the school they want to attend directly for guidance, and at the same time register and submit applications on the Ho Chi Minh City entrance exam portal.
According to the plan, students will participate in a competency survey on July 1, 2026.
