In the 2026-2027 school year, the first-grade enrollment work in Ho Chi Minh City will continue to be implemented online through the city's common enrollment portal https://tuyensinhdaucap. hcm. edu. vn.
The city also continues to use digital maps (GIS) to support initial enrollment.
Through digital maps, management agencies can determine the distance from the student's residence to schools in the area. The allocation of learning places will be built flexibly based on three factors including: the school network in the locality and border areas, the scale of children of enrollment age and the actual distance from home to school.
This approach aims to create conditions for students to study at schools as close to their residence as possible.
Previously, from February 3rd to March 3rd, the city's common enrollment gateway was opened for parents whose children are preparing to enter grades 1 and 6. to check and confirm information. This data will be used as an official and unique basis for the enrollment process.
Ho Chi Minh City stipulates 2 groups of subjects:
Priority group 1 includes children residing in the area at the prescribed age for grade 1, or students who have completed primary school and reside in the area for grade 6.
Priority group 2 are the remaining cases, considered in priority order such as: students who have attended preschool or primary school in the area or border area; students whose parents work at agencies or industrial parks in the area; students residing in the border area; or students transferred from other provinces or cities.
Ho Chi Minh City aims to mobilize 100% of 6-year-old children into grade 1, and at the same time continue to maintain universal education at all levels of education.
For preschool levels, the education sector strives to mobilize 100% of 5-year-old children and at least 90% of children from 3 to 4 years old to go to school. Preschool educational institutions when receiving children must ensure full conditions in terms of teaching staff, facilities and equipment according to regulations.
At the same time, primary schools continue to maintain the organization of two sessions per day, and at the same time gradually expand this model in lower and upper secondary schools when meeting sufficient conditions.
Grade 6 enrollment in the form of admission. In which, some secondary schools can combine the results of training and learning of students at the primary level with competency assessment surveys for admission.
The enrollment work at Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School will be directly organized by the Department of Education and Training.
Students who register for schools that organize competency surveys but are not admitted are still guaranteed the right to be considered for admission according to the general process. The local enrollment steering committee will base on the current residence of the student and the remaining quotas of the schools to allocate appropriate places.
In the 2026-2027 school year, Ho Chi Minh City is expected to have 197,593 students entering grade 1 and 185,730 students entering grade 6.
