Controversy over cutting children's meals if parents do not pay

Hữu Long |

Khanh Hoa - Parents reported that the catering unit announced the cut of meals for boarding students. The education sector said that the school informed parents to prepare in advance.

Sending a petition to the feedback system of Khanh Hoa province, some parents of students at Cam Nghia 2 Primary School (Cam Ranh City) requested the authorities to clarify the responsibility of school leaders in tuition fees at the beginning of the 2024 - 2025 school year.

Accordingly, parents reflected on the implementation of the collection fees mobilized by the Parents' Representative Committee, the school's responsibility for the collection fees mobilized by the Parents' Representative Committee; the organization of boarding schools; and the consolidation of second grade students that may affect students' learning.

For example, the amount of money that parents think is unreasonable, there is no voluntary part like the class fund announced to collect 300 thousand VND/child. After receiving feedback, the school reduced it to 150 thousand VND/child. Or the association fund (association fund for the school) 100 thousand VND/child (80% paid to the school's Parents' Association).

Parents are upset that the catering unit announced that meals would be cut for students if they did not pay boarding fees on time, while no meeting had been held to negotiate the fees.

In addition, the parent association representative also campaigned to pay for air conditioning for the boarding rooms, while the former Principal had announced to donate socialized funds to the school in the 2023-2024 school year...

Regarding the parents' feedback, Ms. Luu Thi Hong Hai - Deputy Head of the Education and Training Division of Cam Ranh City signed a response document on October 1.

Accordingly, the company announced that meals would be cut for students if they did not pay the boarding fee on time. The Department of Education and Training said that this is a boarding service, so if parents have a need, they are responsible for paying the boarding meal fee on time...

Furthermore, the school has notified parents a second time to give them time to prepare, and the school did not arbitrarily stop providing meals for boarding students.

Regarding the content of the Head of the Parents' Representative Board continuing to campaign for payment of air conditioning for the boarding rooms, the Cam Ranh City Education Department said that this was implemented from the 2022-2023 school year, but due to violating regulations, Mr. Tran Van Phuong (former Principal) had compensated and paid the full amount. The Head of the Representative Board and some parents whose children are boarding wanted to support Mr. Phuong a little bit from an emotional perspective, but the school did not implement this content.

According to the Cam Ranh City Department of Education, the content of the Head of the Parents' Representative Committee campaigning to buy televisions for classes at the school-wide parent meeting at the beginning of the year is not in accordance with the prescribed function.

However, this is a suggestion from many parents and teachers to support teaching and learning, the school will study it.

In addition, in response to parents' feedback that combining grade 2 will not ensure teaching and learning, the education sector said that combining grades is included in the assigned targets of the Education Career Development Plan for the 2024-2025 school year of Cam Nghia 2 Primary School, approved by Cam Ranh City People's Committee.
