The Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, in collaboration with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), with the support of the Japanese government and the University of Languages and International Studies, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, has just organized the final round of the "English Speaking Contest for Children on Disaster Prevention and Climate Change Adaptation" in 2024.
The contest is organized to create a useful playground for students, helping them have the opportunity to learn and raise awareness to propagate to those around them about issues related to natural disaster prevention, control and climate change adaptation.
Speaking at the opening of the final round, Mr. Nguyen Van Tien - Director of the Central Project Management Board, Deputy Director of the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said: "The works submitted to the contest show creative perspectives through the lens of the young generation - the future owners of the country.
This is clear evidence that the contest has achieved the desired results - helping students learn, create, raise awareness to spread the word to those around them, and come up with initiatives and solutions to minimize the impact of natural disasters and adapt to climate change."
10 excellent contestants and groups have surpassed thousands of preliminary round entries to participate in the Final Round on the morning of November 1, 2024.
Through captivating speeches, surpassing thousands of contestants nationwide and 9 outstanding candidates in the final round, contestant Dinh Gia Han - a 6C student at Quynh Coi Town Secondary School (Quynh Phu, Thai Binh) demonstrated impressive courage and completed the competition with excellent results, conquering the judges to win the first prize of the "English Speech Contest for Children on Disaster Prevention and Climate Change Adaptation" in 2024.
10 speeches revolved around the following topics: Sharing experiences at the disaster prevention competition; Persuading authorities to include disaster prevention in the curriculum; Inspiring plans to launch a wider movement to prevent and combat natural disasters and adapt to climate change...
Previously, the preliminary round took place from August 10 to September 15, 2024, in an online format. At the end of the preliminary round, the Organizing Committee received more than 4,000 entries from more than 5,000 students nationwide, diverse in ideas and rich in expression.
The second year of the competition was successful, receiving the attention of many candidates across the country. Through the competition, students will be aware of protecting themselves from natural disasters and thereby helping those around them, helping people understand and properly implement safety measures in natural disasters and raising awareness of environmental protection and climate change prevention.
