In the recent admission season, the Ministry of Education and Training has repeatedly encouraged schools to use high school graduation scores for admission because it believes it is more reliable, less costly, and ensures fairness.
However, schools still have autonomy in deciding on the admission method and the transcript review method chosen by many schools.
Expressing his views on the method of considering transcripts, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Duc Son - Principal of Hanoi National University of Education - said that, first of all, the scores of high schools may not be completely consistent.

When evaluating high school scores, in addition to the goal of accurately assessing students' qualifications, there are other goals such as: Encouraging, motivating, adjusting students' learning process... Not to mention, each teacher, each school will have different assessments.
"Therefore, this point cannot be a unified point" - Mr. Son said.
The second point that the Principal of Hanoi National University of Education mentioned is that each university will have its own calculation method to convert high school transcript scores. This is not the same way.
"The two points are not consistent, leading to limited fairness and objectivity when considering admission based on high school transcripts" - Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Duc Son said.
Regarding the Ministry of Education and Training's suggestion of removing or keeping the high school transcript admission plan, Mr. Son said that, as a state management agency, the Ministry's adjustment is to create the best fairness for students.
"When we use some unfair method, the Ministry will make appropriate adjustments. Regarding whether or not to abandon it, there should be feedback from relevant parties, high schools, students, and even universities.
However, this is a good sign showing that the Ministry of Education and Training has prepared early and has an orientation for next year. This is a positive thing" - Mr. Son commented.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Chuong - Chairman of the Board of the University of Transport also said that it is necessary to have a thorough assessment instead of a hasty decision on eliminating the consideration of high school transcripts because this is an important channel, reflecting the learning results of the entire process at the high school level.
According to Mr. Chuong, depending on the industry and school, each school will have appropriate adjustments. For example, special majors such as Architecture are required to have a talent subject; for many other majors, considering academic records is completely feasible.
However, schools can limit admission quotas by this method, to ensure that candidates have the opportunity to be admitted by other methods, ensuring fairness in admission.
Professor Nguyen Tien Thao - Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training - said that the decision to remove or continue enrollment is based on academic records based on actual enrollment.
He said that the admission based on academic records has been taking place for a while and is one of the major admission methods. This is the time to look back to make a fair assessment, how to make enrollment effective, substantial, and of high quality.
Accordingly, based on the survey results and assessments, if the Ministry of Education and Training finds that it is still of good quality, it will maintain and develop this method and if not, the ministry will abandon it. Because according to Mr. Thao: "The biggest goal of Resolution 71 as well as the Law on Education is to modernize education and increase quality, ensure training of high-quality human resources, and develop the socio-economy in the new period.
Admission is just one stage in all stages. But for admission, we will consider methods, as well as evaluation, looking back, and accepting the results as appropriate. However, it is also necessary to ensure the harmonious structure of universities".
