Damaged classrooms, lack of equipment
Phu Hoi Primary School (Nhon Hoi commune, An Giang province) is located in a border commune with many difficulties. The school organizes teaching at 2 school sites, separated by a river, so management, travel and teaching organization face many obstacles.
In the 2025–2026 school year, the school has 19 classes with 482 students, 31 officials, teachers, and staff; including 25 teachers directly teaching.
Mr. Duong Minh Kha, the school principal, worried that the biggest difficulty currently is facilities. The school is lacking 4 classrooms. The classroom block that needs to be replaced was built in 2000 with flood-overcoming scale. In 2025, a tornado blew off the roof of a classroom, in addition, due to its long history, it was subsided, tilted, and large cracks that could not be used. The school has requisitioned the administrative area to temporarily arrange for students to study. In addition, there is a lack of standard restrooms, parking garages and computer equipment.

Teacher Kha recounted: "The school mobilized 26.8 million VND, bought 7 sets of computers to temporarily serve. However, the students did not have enough computers for practice. 3 or 4 students used the same computer or divided it, this lesson some students practiced on computers, some students sat and watched until the next lesson and would exchange them.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Nhung - Head of Group 5, Homeroom teacher of class 5A - shared: Teachers themselves also encounter obstacles when teaching, especially in organizing learning activities according to the new program, requiring suitable space and equipment.
When studying in temporary rooms, cramped, hot or lack of light space will reduce students' concentration. Some group and experience activities are very difficult to implement effectively. However, we teachers always try to overcome them by being flexible in teaching methods, taking advantage of all possible conditions to help students absorb lessons best. The good news is that they are very obedient, diligent and always try to study even though conditions are still very poor," Ms. Nhung said.
Most of the students here are in difficult circumstances but are very eager to learn and have the awareness to rise up. Many students go to school far away, have to cross rivers but still go to school regularly. The efforts of the students are the motivation for our teachers to strive harder every day. We always want to bring the students better learning conditions, so that they have the opportunity to develop like students in more favorable places," Ms. Nhung confided.
Teachers and students unite to try
Teacher Duong Minh Kha said that although there are still many difficulties, the school always strives to improve the quality of education. The rate of students completing the program is high, including many students achieving Good completion and Excellent completion levels.
Every year, teachers and students win prizes in movements and competitions organized by the sector. In addition, students of the school have good academic awareness, are diligent and have a spirit of overcoming difficulties that is very commendable. Many students have to go to school far away, across rivers but are still very diligent. The number of students who have not completed their studies decreases annually, averaging about 0.5 to 1%.

The most precious thing is that they always have the aspiration to study to rise up and change their future. We hope that in the near future, the learning conditions of students in border areas will gradually improve. Thereby, contributing to improving the quality of education, creating a safe and equal learning environment; Gradually narrowing the gap between schools in border areas and schools in more favorable areas," teacher Kha shared.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong - Chairwoman of Nhon Hoi Commune People's Committee - said: The whole commune has about 57,000 people, of which about 3,500 Cham ethnic people live (about 6.11%). People mainly produce agriculture and small-scale trading; The poverty rate is still very high, over 900 households account for about 11%.
The whole commune has 12 schools, the facilities of the schools are still facing many difficulties such as lack of classrooms, seriously degraded rooms; the most lacking equipment is serving the computer science and foreign language teaching program. This Phu Hoi B school is the most difficult compared to schools in the commune. In addition to degraded and damaged classrooms, facilities are also very lacking.
The Provincial People's Committee has allocated resources to invest in construction, repair and renovation, and the commune also based on public investment capital assigned to the grassroots level. The Commune People's Committee has specifically reviewed the current situation and based on the existing resources of the locality to gradually invest, gradually ensuring sufficient teaching and learning conditions for students and teachers.

Ms. Phuong said: "In 2026, the commune has also allocated a part of the most urgent items to implement. The commune also hopes to continue to receive attention, companionship and support from all levels, sectors as well as companies and businesses in the coming time to help the locality gradually improve the quality of education; invest in renovating and repairing schools to be spacious and meet teaching and learning conditions.
