Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung becomes Head of the National Steering Committee for IUU

Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung was assigned to be the Head of the National Steering Committee for IUU.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has just signed Decision No. 815/QD-TTg dated May 7, 2026 on consolidating the National Steering Committee on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and sustainable development of the fisheries sector.

According to the consolidation, the Head of the National Steering Committee for Combating Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IUU) and Sustainable Development of the Fisheries Industry (Steering Committee) is Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung.

The Deputy Head of the Steering Committee includes: Minister of Agriculture and Environment Trinh Viet Hung (Standing Deputy Head); Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Vo Van Hung.

Members include leaders of ministries, departments, branches, and localities: Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee; Ministry of National Defense; Ministry of Public Security; Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ministry of Justice; Ministry of Finance; Ministry of Industry and Trade; Ministry of Construction; Ministry of Science and Technology; Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Government Inspectorate; Office of the National Civil Defense Steering Committee and Chairmen of People's Committees of 22 coastal provinces and cities, with fishing vessels (Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Ho Chi Minh City, Vinh Long, Can Tho, Dong Thap, Ca Mau, An Giang, Tay Ninh).

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is the Standing Agency of the Steering Committee, using the existing apparatus to organize the implementation of tasks assigned by the Steering Committee.

The Steering Committee has the function of advising and assisting the Prime Minister in directing and coordinating the settlement of important inter-sectoral tasks under the Prime Minister's authority related to the work of combating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (anti-IUU fishing);

Direct, urge, and coordinate ministries, departments, and localities to deploy and implement IUU fishing in accordance with international practices, conventions, and international agreements that Vietnam participates in and signs, in accordance with the regulations of regional and international fisheries organizations on IUU fishing.

The task of the Steering Committee is to advise, summarize and propose to the Prime Minister urgent, key, and priority tasks and solutions to implement on combating IUU fishing;

Help the Prime Minister direct, inspect, and urge ministries, departments, and localities to implement documents and directives of the Government and the Prime Minister on combating IUU fishing.
